Robert Cranston...they (I don't know who) have made lots of documentaries about the inhumanity to farm animals. One was about a hog farm & the hogs giving birth & the mistreatment of the tiny little piglets. It is true that hogs are electrocuted. They put a gun that shoots volts instead of bullets, on the hogs forehead...& bam!!!! Sometimes the kill person misses & only hurts the hog! I saw one where a beef cow was hanging on the meat hook, kicking, in line for the next step of the slaughter, of cutting it up alive! My son & his friend pulled into a slaughter house & there laid a pig that someone had slit it's throat, it wasn't dead & was laying there squealing from pain. I, myself, have seen the egg houses with 5 (or more) chickens crammed into a 12 x 12 inch cage, living that way their whole lives, some of the clinging to the side of the cage because there isn't room for them to stand. Their beaks cut off, crooked toes because of having to cling to the side of the cage, probably never having been outside their whole lives. Then when they don't lay eggs anymore they are loaded into a truck with the same sized cages, freezing cold Winter air blowing through the truck, going to be slaughtered! Such sad things happen to animals that are raised to be food! Check it out...it does take that much water & land (grain) to raise beef.

Thank you! Do you know a good place to buy vegan snacks?
@AbundantlyMinimal
@AbundantlyMinimal 4 жыл бұрын
I actually find that most regular grocery stores have a good assortment of vegan snacks! Some of our favorites are hummus with tortilla chips or pita chips, bars (such as Larabars but there are plenty of vegan bars out there), non-dairy yogurt with some fruit, and some fun frozen convenience foods (which are often helpful as people transition)! I hope this helps!

@@AbundantlyMinimal I bought some pre-prepared vegan food from Tesco. Tesco seems to have an excellent range of vegan food. I even managed to get vegan Ben and Jerry's! It tasted amazing :) I bought some Alpro yogurts they taste better than dairy yogurt. My morals and my actions are now aligned with each other and I'm feeling a lot happier. Thank you so much for your advice!

My family gives me a hard time for transitioning into a vegan diet. But every time someone makes a comment I just think to myself “okay we’ll check on our kidneys, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels in forty years and see who’s healthier”

That is so true, Jade! A lot of people only see the short term and live based upon what they are used to, rather than seeing the big picture!

H FS....go for it....make sure you know it's safe for you or actually it will be safe, but find out what it will take to make it safe for you. You must have protein (and other substitutes) peanut butter, nuts, beans, grains...that is very important when giving up meat, but you will be better off, & so will the world!!!!! : ) Judie

Great facts! I converted to Vegan just 2 weeks shy of 3 months ago. My health was very poor and so I was desperate to change for the best. I lost 20 lbs, have more energy, I cook about 3-4 times per week and do not miss dairy, meat or seafood. My cravings for sweets is almost a thing of the past. I never thought I could conquer my sweet tooth. I found the healthier I ate the less I craved unhealthy food. I have an upcoming follow up with my Dr. and can not wait to see the results! Thank you for this information that will keep me on track!

This is very interesting. I only knew of a few things & what I learned from past documentaries I've seen. 😊 But I'm not vegan, but I would love to transition. Yet I know it will take time; I use to be on a soup based diet as a child because of my health. But once I got older I was allowed to eat meat. Now I'm just making sure I eat plenty of fruits & veggies so that my nutrition doesn't get bad again. Plus I only really eat seafood & chicken & certain things I use to eat don't taste all that good to me anymore. Plus dairy isn't much of a friend to my stomach. But I do drink almond & cashew milk. I think I should be able to cut out chicken but seafood will be hard for me. I mainly just eat crawfish, shrimp, & very few certain fish. It will just take some time.
@AbundantlyMinimal
@AbundantlyMinimal 5 жыл бұрын
As long as you are doing what is best for you, you can't go wrong! I always recommend that people who are transitioning think about eating more vegan meals or a higher percentage of vegan food, which still has a huge impact on our health, animals, and the planet, especially when compared to standard diets!

The health benefits come from a mostly whole foods vegan diet, not a vegan diet full of fake meat and cheese and vegan junk food. I wanted to point that out for newbies to veganism. Also, supplement with B12, possibly vitamin A. Get enough calories, fat and protein - not everyone can thrive on diets like 80-10-10. If grains cause you trouble, focus on fruits and tubers for your carbs. Just throwing out some of the main issues that drive new vegans (or even not so new vegans) back into eating animal products.

What about eating meats that you raised yourself, knowing they weren't raised in those conditions? Just curious of your thoughts. That's the only reason I still eat animals off my family's farm. :)
@AbundantlyMinimal

Great question! It is ultimately completely up to you, but I think for me I might even have a harder time with that since I knew that animals personally and to know I raised them only to eat them would make me sad. Thanks for your comment!

Here's the thing: I've come across too many people who go vegan without having the faintest idea how to do it and still stay healthy. They literally eat nothing but pasta and french fries, forfeiting their own health and probably decades of life. Some are even endangering their own children by putting their BABIES on vegan diets without having an effing clue what they're doing. I quit a minimalist group because so many of them were new, uninformed vegans putting their babies and toddlers on this dangerous diet. Yes, it's very dangerous for babies. They can die, or suffer permanent brain damage.

E Dennis....there are so many people that do so many foolish things without getting themselves informed first! Vegan is not the only thing, with a lot of people uninformed is just how their life is. It is very dangerous, very. I can't count how many years ago it has been the first time I heard (on TV no less), talk to your Dr. before you go on any diet to make sure it is safe for you! People do it every day in spite of the warnings. Drugs is one of the biggest examples! What to do if they can't hear? LOL Judie Isn't it strange how people will do all of the things that are so bad....but yet, they don't believe in GOD.
