That simulator is based on Romans willfully charging forward non-stop without hesitance, marines having unlimited ammo and no battle fatigue nor recoil fatigue from their guns.

and the entire roman army could field 380000 total, the vast majority (200 thousand auxiliaries) of which would likely desert, as they had far less care for the roman empire, while the US fields 1.3 million PERSONNEL, of which I believe roughly 200-300 thousand are combatants. ALSO, in the game, the US is fielding WW2 personnel, so they likely had more like 2-4 MILLION combatants (soldiers were much cheaper back then) while having 16 (or so) million personnel.

It's pretty lame yeah. In reality the marines would take a stronghold, defend high ground. Have M40 launchers, sniper team and support. Romans would also have skirmisher troops and scouts, usually horsemen. It would be more interesting like this. The Romans would obviously.adapt to the situation and likely dump their shields after confirmed they are.usueless and not run in as a wall but line.

I remember reading somewhere the USMC actually did a thought experiment like this. Could a single USMC regiment, with all its equipment, take on the Roman Empire. The answer was no. The USMC would win every battle up until they ran out of ammunition, at which point the Romans would beat them. The best the USMC Regiment could hope for would be that one of their guys knows enough period-accurate Latin to negotiate some sorta agreement with the Romans.

@@rory6860 That's certainly possible, but you'd need a way to communicate! And has Roman history has shown us, holding the city of Rome doesn't always mean everybody else stops fighting.

if the usmc had the accuracy shown in this video, they wouldnt win a single battle

well after the first few battles the romans would've considered the USMC as gods or demigods anyway and they would've been the one to open a negotiation first.

Roman's had spears and bows they could have used. This is a very inaccurate example.

These are fun videos but it makes for an interesting thought experiment.. How would a US military regiment stand up to the Roman Army. I have seen a lot of people talking about this in chat and they are right to point out that the marines appear to have unlimited ammo and no need to ever reload. Not to mention their accuracy at considerable ranges and they are all grouped with soldiers bunched in the middle, shooting outward without hitting any of their teammates. While the romans wouldn't likely keep up the attack as they had once they saw what was happening, adjusting the strategy, it's unlikely the marines would have bunched up together out in the open to allow a potential flanking either. The battle simulation merely takes into account firepower and manpower (with hacks like the forementioned unlimited ammo, no reloading, etc) but the strategy is just run into in coming fire. If this were real though the marines would run out of ammo and be swarmed... However if it were real the marines would have other support like the air force, navy, etc. Air strikes would obliterate the roman army. Case and point, give the Roman army their due. They were the top army of their day. But comparing them to a modern army with modern weapons and the Roman's get crushed pretty quickly. It wouldn't even have to be a sizable military like the US. Many countries with much smaller militaries would have little problem subduing the Roman army.. Arrows and catapults do nothing against bombers and tanks. In a realistic situation the marines would likely have backup. Without backup, yeah they are gonna run out of ammo and get massacred but that's not a very realistic scenario.

Hey Samesonite, we pushed some new content last night, 2 new heroes and a giant troll unit. As well we opened up Unit Customization. Give it a try! Edit: just realized these US soldiers are customized?

I wish someone, anyone would post one of these simulated battles where both sides had accurate weapons and ammunition. Surely there's someone capable of giving us this?
