I would love to see an ammo count put on each soldier. That would make it very interesting to see how guns fair against melee fighters when they only carry a standard ammo count, instead of unlimited ammo.

I wonder how it would go if it were more realistic. Limited ammo, friendly fire, realistic health on Romans. The bullets would definitely pierce shields at closer range and kill faster than what was depicted. Both sides would be in proper formations respective to their era. My opinion, if set up properly, US could win while taking very minimal losses.
@mikeanderson1722

Centurions also carried pila, short throwing spears. I would have expected those to have been thrown once they were in range and probably wreak some havok on the unarmored Americans before the doomed charge began. 2 million spears coming out of the air would have made a dent in the lines for sure.
@Etherion195
@Etherion195 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeanderson1722 The problem: They're just spears, so the range is like 20-30m MAX (if at all). Even if romans were able to somehow get close (which they won't), they'd be shot in the time it takes them to throw the spear.

Lol. Realistically, what battalion would deploy without proper supplies, artillery and armored vehicles. Mortars and mgs would shred the Romans before they got close. As they charge and died, the dead bodies would pile up and create obstacles slowing the charge further.

Not mention the Romans had mounted units including chariots. If you're going to use tanks it would have been a little fairer to use mounted units on the Roman side. They also had catapults and the greek fire weapons...... It could have been at least a little more fair.

Only the tanks should be enough. The roman soldiers would have no way to break inside them even if they knew what they were. The tanks don't even need ammo against an army with shields and swords or catapults with rocks.

This is why battle simulators can be very unrealistic at times as the modern army doesn't run out of ammo. What is fun about thinking about these scenarios is also the soldiers have to conserve bullets. People won't charge willy nilly. And tanks and soldiers will run out of ammo while the Roman army will face the problem of running out of soldiers.

Why would tanks run out of ammo? They fired a hell lot more and further than they did in this simulation, they would have plenty in stock and roman soldiers can't run through mountains of dead soldiers with their shield.

The roman soldiers charging into a hopeless battle is pretty accurate if we take a look at roman military practice. If you're a roman legionary it was basically: "If you charge straight at the enemy you might live, but probably die honorably. If you turn and run back, you will most likely be tortured to death by your comrades."
