When young and my family would visit the homestead in Idaho my dad would catch a young chipmunk for us that we would keep as a pet, they make a great pet and are a lot of fun. That was over 50 years ago and I am sorry to say that now you can't find any of them in the area. I is good that they are now protected.

Notice the time of day? Chipmunks are out during the day, put this out at night and you’ll catch other critters.
