Thank you. Yes, this 1000 gallon size is so much fun as a community, i am building another one for Lake Tanganyika cichlids next year.

What a GREAT aquarium. Would be nice to see the filters and pumps and what the maintenance on it is needed..such as water changes and how much,feeding..all the things aquarists like to know. That is at least a $20,000 aquarium off the showroom!

yes, we got the tank used... otherwise it would be too expensive!

@@belowwater My 240 is from the mid 80's and it's never leaked and I've made many a crooked stand over the decades. I would never trust glass over 100 gallons to last. So,acrylic is an aquarium you can count on to last a lifetime. You got a great deal.

Those giant black neon tetras are amazing.
@belowwater2 жыл бұрын
they are Moenkhausia heikoi, a very common fish in the Xingu river that loves high current. The black neon (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi) is from further south in the Mato Grosso.

I suppose convergent evolution on their markings?
@GreenCanvasInteriorscape10 ай бұрын
@@belowwaterI thought they were emperor tetra, add how I don't see natural schooling behavior, perhaps tight schooling is a response to predatory threat A 17 ft long tank would be a challenge to move, did you have it built on site?

A big aquarium prevents aggression that's why I keep my krobias in a IBC tank And then they still fight sometimes Well at least not as much like when I had them in the Aquarium

Dude, talk about inspiration. That is a legit setup!!!!!

Amazing, you must have connections to find so many fish native to that river when you wanted them. You might put in some large branches..to fill in all that blank space between the rocks and the surface of the tank. Pleco's, Leporinus, would enjoy nibbling on the wood and bacterial slime. I draw the line at plastic plants..they just degrade fast accumulate bad detritus it seems...
@belowwater4 жыл бұрын
habitats with rapids in the Xingu don't have any branches or wood.
@StanTheObserver-lo8rx4 жыл бұрын
@@belowwater Still must be some as the plecos need the cellulose . A few curvy would make the fish utilize the upper areas of the tank...rather then gather all at the lower part. In those rapids,are there any surface fish? Or just big predators like Dorado maybe? Its a GREAT set up..just looking at the fish. I like that my 240 have some fish species found in the same stream- barbs and danios and loaches of India..but its not strict as Rainbow fish are also in the 240 gallon. Looking forward to more vids,and I appreciate your experience.Thanks.

@@StanTheObserver-lo8rx not all of them rasp on wood, and research is starting to pop up stating that the ingested wood is not on purpose but rather a side effect of rasping algae from soft pieces of wood.

Amazing tank, but why is all this footage from the side of the tank? It would be nice to see the tank/fish from the front!

Are all these imported if not how hard were they to find?
@belowwater2 жыл бұрын
depends where you are, I am importing fish myself, but none of these species is really difficult to find.

What kind of rocks did you use? I really like them
@belowwater3 жыл бұрын
This is mostly granitoid rock from the Canadian Shield, it is actually quite similar to the rocks found on the Brazilian Shield/ and good parts of the Xingu.

Where in the world were you able to get Geophagus argyrostictus!!??? Neverless the multimaculatus!!?? Are you in America?
@belowwater4 жыл бұрын
in Canada, G.agyrostictus is easy, any time, L.multimaculatus was mixed into L.frederici in very small size, just one specimen.
