A large component of crankcase fumes is water vapor. If you burn any hydrocarbon you always get H20 and CO2 as two of the products. That's why you can see water drip from the exhaust in the morning. Or clouds on a cold morning before the engine fully warms up the exhaust. In those long lines and the location you put it then it's going to condense back into water and fill the can. Catch cans are a band aid for excessive PVC flow caused from blow by caused by a worn out engine or because you are throwing extra boost at it. If catch cans served a useful purpose at extending the odds of an engine making it through warranty trouble free they'd be part of the factory design.

Being a serviceable item and also being who the EPA is, I'll bet that due to those two components they will never be a part of OEM offerings unfortunately.

@@BadlandIndustries Considering there was a time not all that long ago that LA use to be covered in smog and some rivers caught fire in the east I'm glad the EPA is a thing. You should take a trip to China and admire what it's like when you don't have pollution controls. They aren't offered because they just get in the way of the crankcase ventilation system working. They only catch 'oil' when excessive oil is being suctioned off due to excessively high flow. Excessively high flow only happens when the lots of blow by gases go past the rings, which only happens if the engine itself is badly worn or you are doing something that raises compression ratios beyond the design aka forced induction. You are getting water and a small amount of oil because your have normal blow by.

That liquid was hot oil vapor and air from inside the engine that condensed back into liquid oil and water from the moisure in the air once it cooled/condensed in the lines and catch can. Water and oil dont mix well and make a yellow goo. If you had a way bigger can youd have all 3, water, oil and that nasty yellow goo. Looks like its doing what its supposed to do. You might want to run a see through metal element filter on the return line or run another can on the return side as another condensing unit then back to the engine. Just a thought.

The clear lines were to help see the process. And they did their job. I've had catch cans on other n/a cars but haven't ever had them smell of fuel or have everything still separated.

I just picked up the 2024 Colorado z71 with only 8 miles on it. I ordered the MBRP cat back. I’m thinking about ordering a cold air

and what do we learned? CATCH CAN BLOWS YOUR FRONT MAIN SEALS. 🤣 So, did the MFG Warranty covered the MISTAKE?
@BadlandIndustriesАй бұрын
Yes. This catch cans design did not flow enough and may have caused it to leak. I doubt it leaked after the can was removed but this is part of trying new things.

Looks like the line to that can was kinked. Might be why it’s pushing oil out
@BadlandIndustriesАй бұрын
That was the outlet and was kinked from me messing with it prior to taking the video. Being the outlet side it should have nothing in it if the can was doing it's job.

I’d prolly wash it. At least for the sake of the mechanic that’s going to look at it! 😂 Is the clear-ish looking liquid, gas? Maybe some vapors pass through, collect in the can, condensate back to liquid??

I did pour some out and attempt to light it without success. However my entire shop stinks of the catch can now the door is closed.

@@BadlandIndustrieshave u seen the k&n catch can. im thinking of putting one on my truck? theres a video to show how to install k&n catch can

What did the dealership find?
@BadlandIndustries22 күн бұрын
Replaced front main seal and harmonic balancer. It was due to the brass filter in the catch can clogging.

Looks like mostly water
