Been playing with hot rods for 45 years. Every time I see a Powerglide I remember how the "wannabe cool guys" dissed them back in the 70's. (yeah, I am old). A lot of us loved to dis the 'glide, it has proven itself for 50 years (ish) to be an awesome piece for projects like this, no matter how much we laughed at my buddy John's '65 Malibu, that anemic 327 he built was the problem not the Powerglide. Granted, the 3 speeds that were to come were a better choice for street driving the venerable 2 speed still made sense for A to B work. That a two-speed auto lives, and still has a place in a world of 8 and 10 speed paddle shifted dual clutch transmissions is amazing when ya think about it. The car looks good boys. Having done this kinda stuff I have much respect for the untold hours Doug has invested thinking about this machine. Gonna be fun to see it come together! Sounds like the Gov is getting a bit off the rails back there, you guys take care of each other, we need ya.

lol an automatic. in the sand. this thing wont last ten minutes. H-E-A-T is the enemy, especially with a loose converter.

You are mistaken. My friends and I ran automatics behind 600 HP+ Chevy V-8's in custom built sand rails years ago, and they not only lived, they thrived, even with 10 inch converters, pulling 16.50 x15 Paddle tires. All about how you build them.

I think any good gearhead dreams of being able to do a build like this in their lifetime. I think I've tried 4 or 5 times now and somehow, it never gets to the end. Did you guys think about a 4 cylinder before the 2jz for weight savings or just go right to the 2jz? I ask because i think that a k20/k24 would of worked better for weight bias and packaging issues
@brokebikemtb44484 жыл бұрын
I think they were thinking of an ls swap ...but wanted to do something unique and different.....the 4 cylinder honda isn't gonna produce enough torque for sand dragging.....they spool up pretty good but they dont have near enough low end power to launch against ls powered machines....the straight 6 design has been used in tow trucks and old farm equipment because they produce alot of torque.....the 2j has the added benefit of a modern valve train to compliment that inline rotating assembly....then a turbo to just ice the cake.....
