Automobile Addict a 2jz was created specifically for performance in mind. It has thick main caps, a forged rotating assembly etc. and has a turbo mounted to it. They are also relatively expensive. The fact that a $500 v8 out of a truck made for hauling and towing can have turbo installed and reliably make 700 hp is one of the most impressive things ever, because it simply wasn’t designed to do so, but it can anyway. The displacement argument holds no water since we are comparing boosted applications.

Automobile Addict I’m not over thinking it. A 4.8/5.3 was out of a Silverado or work van was never and has never been designed by GM to withstand 50 lbs of boost. It just wasn’t, plain and simple. A 2JZ on the other hand, was designed with a turbo application in mind whether after the factory or during the build process of the vehicle the same goes for any RB Nissan motor. I know nothing bout the 4 liter you speak of, but if that is true that is incredibly impressive.

Right. I tried telling them to just buy a 4.6 cobra motor and you don’t have to touch anything. Stock Unopened motor, stock tty head bolts, valve covers never taken off, factory pistons, rods, crank etc. it will make this hp all day.

Nit gonna ask how you used long tubes with a turbi unless you did some kind of rear mount but those numbers are not impressive at all especially on 10 pounds and e85. We did a stock coyote with only upgrade being oil pump gear and at 10 pounds on e85 made just over 700 wheel and 900 foot pounds.

Thats incredible. I absolutely love the fact that it only laid down 227/306 naturally aspirated then fucking 1051/1100 on 27 psi. Thats just awesome. You never see N/A to boosted HP comparisons of the same engine on the same day in the same conditions on the same dyno. Awesome stuff. What else is done to the engine if you don't mind me asking? Head work? when you say stock bottom end I'm assuming that means pistons too IE they are still stock dished 5.3 pistons?

Raythetree001 this is old stuff..the engine is from a 2002 chevy truck... the new ford coyotes are also awesome, just a bit pricey but those run really good too and make good power with boost also., you can find gen3/4 GM engines in junkyards everywhere. this car has a good sized air/air intercooler.

Southern Telcom look at a hot rod article called the big bang theory they put a 1000$ chines twin turbo kit on a 4.8L and make 1200 engine horsepower and yes every LS will MAKE and HOLD this kind of power with minimum work and hot rod magazine used a motor with 150 000 miles if im not mistaken but yes it will work

I have been planning a turbo 5.3 build for some time now. I am currently talking to the only shop I know of that has done a LS swap into a Subaru Forester. (What I plan to do) Once I my Forester has a LS sitting in it, I know where I will be going to get tuned.. Killer job guys. My goal is 600+rwhp with A/C, Yet docile enough to take the kids to school. ;) It will more than likely be a 5.3 however I have yet to decide on a transmission. TU350, TU400, or 4l80e. I know the 4l80e would be the best choice for something that will see a lot of street use as it has overdrive if I am not mistaken. What do you guys recommend?

G G it’s on a wheel dyno so that should be self explanatory. Also your tune doesn’t just depend on boost timing is a big factor. You could be on a very conservative tune with little timing

taylor sondreal for a ls build that makes around 15-20 PSI of boost the top rings should be 28 and the second ring comes factory 28 so thats all left alone so if you gap top ring to 28 you shouldnt have a problem
