Where I worked, once in my life, lived three great tribes; tribe Ford, tribe Chevrolet, and tribe AMC. I AM NOT A CAR GUY, but, what I learned from the chiefs of these tribes was astonishing. Did you know that a Ford SOHC motor fits quite nicely in a ‘72 Maverick? Did you know that owning a Yenco Camaro with all matching numbers and original paint and tires, makes you one of the hands of God? Did you know that showing up at Laguna Seca in an ex-Folmer AMC Javelin, with the NASCAR engine and street legal papers, made you more handsome than Rock Hudson and nearly twice as gay? These are the things I found fascinating from the three great tribes. I also learned of heresy, of things that would never be done in public, of things dark and reeking of dark side evil. Such things are considered to be “OK” by the tribes, putting a Chevrolet engine in any hot rod and some Fords, sourcing a 351 Cleveland out of a city works truck to build a monster for a DeTomaso Pantera. The dark side is of such vast and complicated lore that many times a year the three tribes met to hurl insult and broken parts at one another when heresy was committed. Such things as never putting a Chevrolet engine in a Shelby Cobra, never, ever, would a Pontiac 455 be considered a high performance engine, ever! Telling a tribesmen in secret that the AMX Javelin was just average ( this heresy could get you stoned in public)! These are the things I learned working with the people of the three great tribes. And one last heresy that would never, ever, EVER, be tolerated was the most foul and degenerate heresy’s any of the tribesmen could affront the others with, driving a ‘74 Trans-Am wearing a cowboy hat and tight jeans with cowboy boots. I will have to perform penance for even letting something so vile slip from my mouth…

"When I built this dual supercharged 427 Cobra in 1966, I wanted it to be the fastest, meanest car on the road," Shelby said on the Barrett-Jackson Web site. "Forty years later, it will still kick the tail of just about anything in the world. It's the fastest street legal Cobra I've ever owned." Shelby pegged the car's 0-60-mph time at just over three seconds.

I met an engine builder at an FE Ford meet who was showing off one of these. Beautiful engine. I have a background in small engines and noticed something that made me ask “Is that a chain oiler from a McCullough chainsaw?” “Yep” I wasn’t knocking it. It made perfect sense to lube the cam drive. McCullough oiling parts aren’t something you see often on engines worth as much as a house.

Beautiful, Honolulu country way back when I was a teen we use to go to the junk yard often. I remember seen a lot of mustangs and galaxies and comet. I remember seen a lot of ford big block fe I remember because of the stock intake was so diffrent Empty and a high rise and monster side intakes.thoes days tons of camero z 28 funny all that cars and engine are so rare now. I seen race cars and short tracks cars. What killed a lot of nice old collector cars was the demolished races. It’s was heavy here and they took the best crash cars and destroyed classic cars. My sister was driving a falcon 4 sp with a 289 given to her. I had a few camero 69 & 70. Mustang ho, friend had a Chevy truck with a 409. My boss son at the gas station have a stock Hemi road runner black. Idei Sound just as a cammer. A friend in town had a camero with a 427 aluminum block stock. But someone stole the car. 4 decades ago I read a book my brother-in-law had re: "The History of AC Bristol Cobra's" Carroll Shelby etc. There are three things I've never forgotten: 1] the $7500 price tag; sure a lot back then, but not when you consider it would sell for 1M+ today; well not so much :) 2] it stated that most people who bought one didn't live to make their 1 payment [which I came to believe], when you consider #3 3] it also stated that it would hit 71 mph in 1st gear, 113mph in 2nd gear, then you're on your own after that. That's right off the showroom floor.

Stunning & sounds awsome, wish we could have heard it with a heavy foot. the best look, amazing work too👌. Curious Question: It's a high performance engine, so does it matter if the Air Intake pipes from the superchargers are different lengths and one not routed for equally timed high pressure into the engine?

An awesome machine, both in body and powerplant. I can remember back in the late 80s there was a cobra replicar kit called the taipan that was made by an australian company,it was featured in a hot rod/street car type magazine of the time.It was powered by a twin turbo 455 pontiac v8 running on lpg[propane] of all things.

I saw Carroll Shelby's Super Snake (and many Cobras) at the Shelby museum in Las Vegas. It's another worthwhile stop for anyone who DID NOT give this video a thumbs down. Excuse me now, I'm on my way to Garland!
