I love re-watching a lot of these videos. I remember you giving us a tour of the place for scouts what seems like a long time ago now. Now after working as a mechanic and a welder I'm able to far better appreciate just how impressive the amount of skill that goes into building these cars is. Thanks for the unique experience I will never forget David Kirkham

Great work guys. Last time I did any kind of metal forming work it would have been perfect, if I was trying to make aircraft wreckage. Problem is,I was trying to straighten out a fender. :( There is a real art to work like that. I am very envious of your talent.

Gorgeous work. What kind of alloy is it? Phosphor/tin bronze? Silicon bronze? Aluminum bronze? What kind of tarnish resistance can the customer expect? I mean, I know all copper alloys tarnish over time given the right conditions, but as far as I know the aluminum bronzes resist tarnishing pretty well, whereas the tin based bronzes start turning almost immediately... kinda its thing.

I don't understand why European fabricators make the FIA GT versions of the cobra, with roof, and American kits seem to only be roadsters. The roof increases speed, makes a more comfortable drive and let's you drive in rain.

Absolutely brilliant is it brass or is it bronze and what are you brazing// welding it with i.e. what filler Rod are you using please
@KirkhamMotorsports13 жыл бұрын
Silicon bronze. We TIG weld with parent material (we shear strips off the sheet and use it for welding rod).

Great work!! How much heavier is the car using bronze vs the aluminum cars?
@kailexx19623 жыл бұрын
I know this is a post to an old question, but Bronze-Aluminum is about 3X the weight of Aluminum (per cubic foot). About 481 lbs vs. 168 lbs. You can hear the guy "oof" when he lifts the hood.
@sbazain9 жыл бұрын
how did you get all the hammering out with out filler i know you filed it with the cutter but you can bring it down to where when you buff theirs no indentations.
@KirkhamMotorsports19 жыл бұрын
We straighten it with a hammer and dolly and then file off the last imperfections so we can polish the surface.

How can jewelry like that ever be used as intended? Of course anyone who can truly afford to buy one can also afford the regular refinishing that hard road use generates. Awesome craftsmanship still lives.
@KirkhamMotorsports15 жыл бұрын
Many of our customers just keep their cars in their garage (or house, or office, or wherever) just like any other piece of art. The bronze cars are spectacularly beautiful in real life.
@paladin06545 жыл бұрын
Gorgeous, but my god, how much did that hood cost?
@KirkhamMotorsports15 жыл бұрын
It was part of the sale. Today we would charge $20,000 for that hood--maybe more.
@LanceisLawson6 жыл бұрын
Why Bronze? It's heavy and a maintenance headache due to tarnishing. However the craftsmanship demonstrated here is first class.
@KirkhamMotorsports16 жыл бұрын
Because it's beautiful :)

Is there any possibility that a highschool student that is about to graduate could have forged a block and borrow the facilities after receiving training for them to turn that forged block into a engine block?
@KirkhamMotorsports17 жыл бұрын
I am not really sure what you are asking???
@TheCookinHam7 жыл бұрын
I'm asking if someone bought/commissioned a certain metal cast if the school would let them use their machinery to make it into a engine block. Enrolled or not and would there be a charge for doing so?
@jamesfurlong76444 жыл бұрын
How much would a super snake hood for a 2017 mustang cost 08 gt500
@KirkhamMotorsports14 жыл бұрын
We would have to make tooling which is very expensive to make. The first one would be many, many thousands.
@jamesfurlong76444 жыл бұрын
What I was thinking I just get a older one that in aluminum or steel & make one out of two or cut the other one & pull it up than add sum more 2 it get the height I want.
@KirkhamMotorsports14 жыл бұрын
@@jamesfurlong7644 We would need a model in CAD to be able to make the tooling to make the hood.
@Skwisgar23228 жыл бұрын
i realize it kinda cool, but the weight...that thing must be heavy as hell compared to an aluminum version.
@earlcousins66359 жыл бұрын
English Wheel. What are your thoughts on the size of the wheel? Is larger (ht & w) better or is the difference minimal? Just saw a video of guy using an upper wheel 6-8 inches wide and of course same for anvil. Enjoy your work and videos.
@KirkhamMotorsports19 жыл бұрын
The English wheel (as we call it in the US--in England they simply call it a "wheeling machine), is EXTREMELY difficult to master. There aren't many of us left in the world who know how to use one. Larger wheels work better--mostly because they have more inertia and can squish welds pretty easily. That said, stretch forms are way, way easier.
@KirkhamMotorsports111 жыл бұрын
250 maybe 300 pounds. Bronze is quite dense.
@cliffordharley43225 жыл бұрын
I know it looks cool but why bronze? Aluminum is so much lighter and easier to work & weld!
@KirkhamMotorsports15 жыл бұрын
Because bronze is beautiful. Aluminum is easier to form, but harder to weld than bronze.
