A 100cc 2 stroke motorcycle adventure ride? On a 50-year-old vintage 2-stroke Yamaha Enduro? Yessirree! Sure, on a modern, reliable, full-sized motorcycle this 82 mile route would have been routine and no big deal. But on a tiny old bike that hasn't been running for decades? Well, it makes every mile seem longer and every little obstacle seem bigger.

I’ve been hooked on motorcycles since 1975 when, at the age of 11, my dad brought home a shiny new Suzuki TM75 for me and a Suzuki TC185 for himself so that we could trail ride together in the hills of West Virginia. Since then I’ve worked as a mechanic, owned countless bikes, and even worked in the motorcycle industry for a number of years as a photographer and journalist. Now I do mainly video production and enjoy nothing more than making and sharing these motorcycle videos on KZbin.

I bought a green 1972 LT2 Yamaha Enduro exactly like this one in 72 when I was 13 years old. It's fun to see you riding the exact same bike of my childhood. I had so much fun on that thing. Hearing that ring ding ding sound really brings back memories. A few years later I bought the 125 Enduro. It had electric start. It actually was a much better bike. Later I bought a 250 Suzuki two stroke twin cylinder street bike. That thing was actually kinda fast. Years later I bought a Yamaha v-star 650 then a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 and now have the Honda VTX 1300. It's the best bike I've ever owned but I will always have a soft spot for that little green 100. You never forget your first childhood bike.

Love your videos. I had a 1971 Honda SL 100 because my Dad forbid me to get the 2 stroke Yamaha I wanted. Rode that little Honda hundreds of miles on Northern Michigan power line trails. Good times. Now after 21 surgeries my dirt biking days are over. Still ride my 23 year old Honda Goldwing 1500. I have now been riding motor cycles for 55 years.

@@jimmytmoto after cruising through the stop sign I was able to heat the breaks up enough to make them functional again and my GM Oakland has four wheel brakes unlike the Fords at that time or might of been a different experience. Live a d learn. Loving the 100 videos.

I restore these little bikes for a hobby. I've restored over 60 1968-76 Yamaha enduros The LT2 is 1 of my favorite. My rider is a 1973-DT3 250

I still have my Christmas present from 1973. A Yamaha GT80. It has sat in Dads garage since around 1980 though. Hopefully my nephews didn't turn the gas on while it was sitting because I am 99% sure I never drained the gas tank. My bike was hopped up by Daves Cycle Shop in Indy so most of the Indy 500 drivers could ride it around the track when it was new. It is a beast! will run dead even with a Honda Elsinore 125 till I run out of gears. Dad also has a 1965 Yamaha YA6 125. I need to get both of them back running. I just picked up a 2020 XT250 and love it so far! Last spring I bought a very nice 72 Triumph Bonneville 650 in Los Angeles. Original desert bike. No rust no crust. I can't wait for spring!

Awesome 👍 I used to have a Kawasaki G4 100cc dual-purpose bike which is very similar but different in some ways. It had a rotary valve for the carburetor and a dual-range transmission. But still it was prone to fouling spark plugs and leaving me stranded if I didn't have a spare. However, I eventually learned that properly adjusting the carb minimized this problem. I just finished working on a ‘71 TS125. Found out if your screwdrivers keep rounding out heads on the old Japanese bikes you need to pick up a set of JIS screwdrivers. Japanese Industrial Standard. Vestal makes a set with interchangeable ball-grip handle with bits. Good for traveling.

I just rediscovered your channel! Welcome to the world of vinduro bikes! (i.e. VINtage enDURO.) I've been a vinduro bike enthusiast since... '98? In fact, I created the group "Vinduro" in July of 2000. (Has it been over 22 years???) Among my stable of bikes, I currently have three vinduros: A '71 Zundapp GS125, '72 DKW GS125 and a '73 CZ 175 Trail. The Zundapp and DKW have been up and running/ridden since the summer of 2019. The CZ goes back on the lift stand as soon as I get all the bikes serviced and ready for my (our, Wild Child the wife rides, too) season, which is COOLER weather. I typically ride almost all of Autumn, all of winter (if possible), and most of Spring. When the hot weather hits, I'm done until next "season". Speaking of small bore Yamaha's: Wild Child the wife owned her own AT3 for over a year and LOVED it. (Lower, lighter than the XT225 she was riding.) I built her a '21 KLX 140L Dual Sport and it supplanted her AT3 as her preferred ride, so we sold it. It too, was a great bike in regards to being dependable and it was SO user friendly. Seeing as it's been over 1 year since you uploaded this video, I do hope you have held on to your LT2. You are correct: Vinduro bikes are getting harder to find and very expensive when you do. Well, I've blathered long enough. Have fun and I'll stay tuned to your channel for more vinduro content!

I just got the big bro RT360 and like you said, slowly having more and more confidence in it. First couple rides and starts were sketch as the first one resulted in float needle unscrewing and puking fuel. Then idle slide getting stuck open with throttle causing it to red line at start. And a few times bout breaking my ankle when trying to kick over lol. Finally got use to the quirks and now becoming more aware of how to ride this old beast. Ring ding innnng!

I’m glad I found this channel. I’m a 55 yr old lifetime Yamaha rider and finally got my first XT. A 92 XT225 Serow with only 1300 miles on it. Been binge watching all your tweaking and fixing vids on that but was tickled that you also have an LT100! I had a purple one when I was 12. Was my first “shifter” after a bazillion miles on a Rupp! Loved that LT. The sound of yours brought back many happy miles! Thanks for the content. My new to me Serow has a few of you “minor” issues and one “medium” one of the seeping base gasket. Getting the gasket set to have on hand. Doesn’t seem too bad of a job. Last top end I did was on a YZ490 in the 80s. Thanks!

I love this guy's channel! The fact that I happen to be in agreement with so much of his approach to riding doesn't hurt. Kind of a parallel universe thing. My first bike was a 1975 Yamaha DT-100, same exact bike as this one, but with updated paint. Nowadays, I ride an MT09, but make no mistake, I also have a 2006 Yamaha XT225 as my escape from reality vehicle. Looking back to early high school, I'm amazed at the places that 100cc Yamaha took me. I'm not kidding. It was geared low enough that I could almost use if for Trials riding.

Man, same year as my Suzi TC90 (now a 100cc because 90cc pistons are rare). It's weird how similar they are. But if they're anything alike they're stupid capable bikes, people were spoiled back then. You just can't get a bike this good that cheap these days, not even close.

I used to lived in Cleveland, Ohio but now reside in DFW, Texas. We just don't have the big canopy trees like you have in Ohio and Indiana. Some parts of northeast Texas, approaching Arkansas and Louisiana we have some canopy trees. Also, east of a Dallas around Tyler, TX there are some nice woods. But forget about north toward Oklahoma... them's is the plains. There was one short single path segment you showed. That was fascinating. I'd love to see more of those if you are so inclined. Gord

When I was 22, in 1972, I took a bicycle tour from Troy, OH over through southern Indiana, across to Evansville, and then down to Paducah, KY. It was in the last half of September... just beautiful. I just bought a 79 dt100 enduro and im working on rebuilding it but starting to realize there are a lot of little things missing like the battery the wiring harness for the lights the oil pump bit the gauge and ignition switch. I took it all apart before really trying everything to get it started because there is no electrical bits. It would be great if you could do something of an in depth overview of the bike.

Hi Jimmy, let me first say I love your videos! I learn a lot from watching them....I live in Texas, we have gravel roads and some paved roads to ride on to try to stay off of major highways. I ride the back roads around here and the country highways... My dad used to take us down in the bottom of Red River to ride...my brother and I had a blast....I had a paper route and was able to to buy a 1972 Honda 100 and 4 months later I bought the 1973 ct 125. It was the blue one..I loved that Yamaha...For a kid, it had more power than anything I had rode before. I still ride, I have a Kawasaki KLX 250 and a KLX 140rl...I had to have the KLX 250 lowered too...I'm only 5'5"...I wish we lived closer to each other, I would love to go riding with you..Keep the videos coming and stay safe.

If it's anything like my Suzuki (and it is extremely similar) the answer is "doesn't matter". Fill up the tank and it will last as long as you can. I put a gallon in my Suzi once a week and I road every day there wasn't ice, snow or rain on the road. Like seriously, MPG functionally doesn't matter it sips so little fuel.

Ive had a 75 DT100 for 5 years now street legal from the get go and it's done really well. It's been on the highway with a passenger a few times and tops out at about 110km. Love my DT with a passion and will never get rid of it. Hope you have a much fun with yours as I have mine. Truly an amazing bike
