Zero apologies needed man, cmon dont be silly! Chains have been destroying cases for decades, and they will continue for decades to come. There are plenty of those engines around, parts shouldnt be even remotely an issue. Keep at it, we are all looking forward to seeing you bang through the gears on that thing

@@1991enduro It happened to me a few times with some old Blasters. JB Weld never would work for me. It was great right off the rip…but NEVER lasted. No matter how meticulous I was with pre-cleaning the case, it just wouldn’t hold. Once I upgraded tensioners, and added a chain guard, I never had that problem again.

Always buy or make a "case saver" which is designed to prevent the chain from whipping into the block like this. It's just a strip of steel that rides between the sprocket and the case. They work extremely well.
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry this happened, you will fix it and have it going again soon. Consider some pusher bolts that support and hold the pillow block bearings,this will take most of the torque load off the main bolts and not allow them to shift, plus they will make it easier to tension the chain. Take care buddy 🙂👍

90% chance the motor is fine, you shut it down pretty quick after it popped. worst case probably patch or replace the case, and give the engine a good rinse out if you're worried about metal debris in the oil. but id bet you'll be ok to just keep going with this engine. ive seen much worse continue to run for many years.
@calholli
@calholli 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly.. You can patch that hole with some JB weld and a beer can. I'm not joking, I've done it many times. It's not a structural piece. All you have to do is make sure that it doesn't leak oil.. I've also ordered these blocks before on Ebay--- I just bought the half block that I needed for $80.. and it still mated up with my block. but until then, just put some JB weld round the hole and press a beer can (or other sheet metal) over that hole and go ride it some more. Even if there's a piece of metal inside, it will likely just sit in the bottom... I'd patch that hole and send it... Get the JB Weld "original" -- not the "kwik" version. The original is stronger, but it takes 24 hours to set up.

So many people have written their bikes off the same way, you and i are lucky we can tig weld... putting a guard in front of the front sprocket to prevent this in future and the area around put some thick impact plastic covering the area behind the sprocket and a metal guard to prevent the chain going through the same location, Yamaha R6's are famous for having this issue when the chain goes. JB weld..? NO!!!! Tig it, you know how to. Getting into splitting the cases is annoying but a skill worth learning! Not being scared of that is how i get cheap bikes! Great build.. and remember these bumps in the road make us stronger and wiser! might as well get it painted while the engines out right? Take care dude x

Beautiful build man. Sorry to see that set back, but I'm sure you've already figured out a solution. I built a similarly sized cart in the 90's and used an engine i got for real cheap, all in parts. I put it together and it ran, so i built a simple frame, with double wishbone front suspension, but just a straight rear axle. The engine was a modified Yamaha 570 Exciter motor. It did amazing smoke shows and donuts, but it was difficult to accelerate around corners with no diff. I used flange mount bearings and my jack-shaft never moved. Sold it to a guy who claimed it did the quarter mile in 11.7 at 120 mph.

I feel your pain. WE run those engines in carts just like that at Glamis sand dunes. and you need some serious chain tension. Put a piece of steel between that front sprocket and the case. But some serious stuff ho hold that back axle from pulling foreword. Look at a motorcycle how the rear axle is mounted. make it even stronger. Chain tensioner would not hurt too. Some serious horsepower and torque there. So keep that in mind.

If case is aluminum, should be able to just weld it. Did that too. Granted, it was just a 6mm screw hole but you're smart, you'll figure it out. For the pillow blocks, I did the exact same setup and had the sliding issue too, except in my jackshaft. Weld a coupler nut to the frame in front of the pillow blocks with enough clearance for the matching bolt head, and use that to tighten the chain and keep your axle from sliding. Fab on!

if it is only the engine case that is bad, you can use aluminium brazing rod to fix it. works and looks alot beter then jb wield and you only neeed a simple torch to use it.
@calholli
@calholli 2 жыл бұрын
That's a lot harder to do on cast aluminum though.. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but you really have to know what you're doing. It's not like brazing clean billet aluminum.. No one is gonna see it under that chain guard. I'd just JB Weld it with a piece of beer can and then weld up a "case saver" guard so it doesn't happen again.
@supertedogpriken
@supertedogpriken 2 жыл бұрын
@@calholli i think we are thinking of 2 different things. Aluminium brazing is the same thing no mater what materials you are working with: Steel, aluminum, cast aluminium, magnesium, iron, stainless steel, gold, silver, The brazing rods dont care what material they are used on. it is just like gluing things together, just with aluminum insted of glue/jb wield and so on. and as long as you can use a butane torch everybody can learn how to use aluminium brazing rods. Here is a video of the stuff i mean. check it out and try it sometime. you can get the brazing rods from home depo, harber freight, ebay, amazon, wish, just about everywhere thay sell tools. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHysfKZ6m7d0mdU

Hey man don't stress to much. To avoid venting the block again. Drop the front sprocket 1 tooth and mic the clearance between the chain and block. Get some 1/4 or 3/8" steel plate. Cut it wide enough to protrude out pass the block about 1/2inch or more "if you have the horizontal clearance. Heat your steal plating up and run it through a pipe bender of some kind with flat wheels. Curve it to fit between the block and chain. Weld some good sized nuts to it and bolt the plating on between the block n chain. If you can get the clearance close enough the chain won't be able to kink up or slap the block anymore. Then you only have to worry about rear sprockets getting destroyed "which are usually way cheaper and easier to fix"

Pretty common occurrence when a chain breaks or comes off on the GSXR. Couple suggestions, DO NOT jb weld that hole, weld it correctly even if you can’t find the piece just get a similar composition piece of aluminum and weld it. It’s soaked with oil though so pre heat it a lot before trying to weld to burn off the oil imbedded in the metal. Also that clutch pushrod and seal both need replaced as they are both damaged from the chain(pushrod bent, seal oblonged).
