What a starter this guy is, and when he gets into his up right mode of sprinting Asafa makes top speed running look so darn easy.. Technique Baby Technique and so hard to believe hes never won a world or Olympic indoor or out Gold medal in the show box at home?? Crazy huh just goes to show how mental focus is just as important as the sprinting itself I guess. Comes like 5th or 6th in the Olympics and a week later he shows Usain his back for the whole race. So unpredictable but I always thought he was going to win the world and Olympics Gold at 100m. Hes had some team members on his relay teams over the years too. Imagine all the great sprinters we never heard of because of the depth of talent in sprinting in Jamaica is so deep. 10.3sec would just about win the irish national championships. There are school kids running 10.3 n quicker in Jamaica for G'awd sake it simply amazing. Nice post and memory of another great performance from Asafa 😉🏅🇮🇪

I remember a world indoor champs Asafa done 1 year and in the semi final I think he ran 6.42sec n he eased down in the last 10/15 meters of that particular race. But yet again looking like the favourite for the title but he got beat running something like 6.49sec just goes to show when running relaxed he was simply unbeatable but when the pressure was on and he pushed him self he was restricting his flow by being tense and pushing himself for the win. So many good memories of his races. I watched him in practice training doing a 300m n eased out a 32sec 300m. Which I do believe he cud of been a medal winner at 200m if he wanted to. Think he was able to to like 46.1sec for 400m in his traditional 1st race of the season as he was doing lots of 400m in training for conditioning n get him ready for 100m for the rest of the season. I think he ran 10.27sec in France or Italy last season into a strong head wind. But hasn't Asafa got about 110 sub 10sec clocking for the 100m which is a world record in its self??
@pwbtv

Wonderful analysis, you have written what everyone in Jamaica thinks... He is the greatest "what if sprinter". He could have, well maybe; toppled Usain's apple cart, if he had the mental fortitude to do the rounds at major championships. With his incredible start Usain would always have to play catch up. Who to tell, maybe if Usain had a bad day and Asafa did his typically flawless start. Maybe and just maybe history would have been a little different. However, I guess we'll never know. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

@@pwbtv I take it your jamaican yourself? But yeah us fans of sprinting must all think if Asafa had that mental fortitude to scramble up Usains Applecart as u called it ha ha I really do believe the WR For 100m if Asafas wud still be 9.5? A nice 2.0m per second wind behind him that record could be just that bit quicker than 9.58sec? And I still believe if Asafa spent some of his yrs focusing on the 200m he could well of won a world champs or 2004 Olympic games at 200m and ran about 19.2ish for the distance too? Who know but we all can have our opinions I guess. I hope to see 1 more sub 10sec for the Tonne by Asafa before he calls it a day? I'll never forget him that's for sure. 🇮🇪🏃‍♀️🇮🇪

Francis (Take 4 stride on the bend) Obikwelu and then into the home straight I remember 1st seeing a tall Gangly Francis at the 1996 Olympics or even 92? Won his 1st round heat and was still a junior for Nigeria at the time. Then ended up representing Portugal and running 9.86sec which is the current and equal European record holder for 100m with French sprinter. His name escapes me now but if ur a fan u know who I'm on about n not Christophe la'metrie.

@oceej0 Ghanaian is right, I had an old training partner of mine who made the Atlanta Games in 96 in the 100m and was up against Aziz in the 1st round of the 100m at those games, Neil Ryan was his name n he got hammered by him, think he finished 6th or 7th in that race n only ran 10.78sec but had a PB of 10.44sec. Nerves must of played it's part there. He told me that he cudnt get over the muscularity of the other sprinters and was convinced they were all using a little something else to help them run so fast n have such huge physeeks especially in the hips and upper bodies?? Just passing on the info I was told by someone who was there. 🏅🏃‍♀️🇨🇮

And most of his weight training was done with his on body weight, a Physioball, a box and light weights. Keep it simple with simple cheap equipment it not what u know but how you use it YO. I once had the honour of meeting his Core conditioning coach Mikey Rubin who was in ireland learning from the most gifted physios in Ireland "Anthony the Star Geoghegan" and he explained to me in detail how he'd coach the Jamaican sprinters with so little equipment and got results very fast and cleverley reduced the chance of injuries with the training methods he used. So I have the secrets everyone, anyone seeking help to improving there sprinters or any athletes for that matter? I'm just here guys and ladies and more than willing to share the methods used to improve athletes off the track. Just drop me a line if ud like me to help?? I live in Western Ireland 🇮🇪
