Absolutely, well said. Wasn't only his arms nd stride, his poise as well trunk form, with head held high nd still. High knees coming forward as perfunctionary form of his action which gave him tht pounce allowing t heel to remain tight under nd close to his back side in stride. Poetry in motion is in-fact poetic justice. Carl was t next evolution in perfunctionary form for t modern day sprinter. His deceleration mechanics taught many a coach about the start, t body, t finish of t sprint race. My hats off to this technician nd his coach.

I thought hed rule the world after that, but it didnt happen. It seemed not just to be unlucky with injuries but to lose his nerve on the big occasions. I suspect he couldnt handle the pressures of fame that came with the territory of owning the top blue riband event of the Olympics. He had all the attributes to be the greatest of all sprint legends, but just not as strong mentally as Usain Bolt to carry the weight. He seemed just happy enough to carry on being a good enough sprinter to pickup a medal or two in the relay, and let other guys like Bolt handle the media, and fame.

Carl Lewis was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 84...the same year as they got Jordan, but he chose to stay with track and field. I only just found that out. Remarkable athlete.
@shawnyoung87523 ай бұрын
Look up Carl singing the National anthem in Chicago in 90 ? Jordan has his warmup jersey above his face to not show him disrespect. It was awful. Also he would do the long jump that was always in between 100 200. He never had a rival to push him until Powell. That meet had Powell jump over 28 feet 5 times. He had only jumped over 28 2 times. Only 3 others had jumped over that. All just once. Lewis jumped over 28 feet 100 times. That where I think the kid Boling should be at. He jumped 27 as a sr in high school and 27'9 in freshman year of college. He is never going to be a hundred guy. 200 is just a waste with all the USA talent. 400 long jump and mile relay.

To be fair, Peter's comment was made 8 years ago, when testing was less advanced than it is today. He may have inadvertently had too strong a morning coffee, but the level of caffeine he took wasn't enough to give his post an unfair advantage, and it wouldn't have been illegal if he was competing in today's threads.

This was in 1988 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis. The tailwind behind the sprinters was over the allowable legal limit of 2 meters per second, so what would have been a world record for Carl Lewis was not permitted to stand, There's no doubt the strong wind was pushing the competitors down the track faster than they'd normally run. But this was the fastest time ever run in the 100m - and was 1/100 of a second faster than Ben Johnson's time later that year in Seoul at the Olympics.
@pavelhykl50635 жыл бұрын
Sorry but it is impossible that wind of 5,.2m/s can push sprinters faster who carry top speed around 12m/s.. :D The wind only reduce the air pushed by sprinters against them.. :) Yes, if the wind were more than 12 m/s then they would be pushed by it :)

I always liked Carl Lewis his graceful stunning performances, and general media personality. The only thing to blight that were his finger pointing antics and the arrogant way he carried himself above other athletes as if he was as clean as a whistle, and as pure as Gods gift. I was really disappointed to later find out that he never was, the 2003 news story was a killer, a better example of a hypocrite would be hard to find. In recent years Usain Bolt although a really cool and fun guy, he never had Carl’s eloquent and intelligent media savvy, but he at least respected his fellow athletes even if they tore up the rule book, paid the price, and later rolled up in the lane next to him. Bolt actually turned out to be more of a model champion with a priceless humility and honesty that Lewis never really had.
