The Xbox 360 was named that because Microsoft thought that people would see it as inferior to the PS3. If Microsoft had named the Xbox 360, Xbox 2, people would assume that this mean't the PS3 would be more superior. You know, since many people who didn't know the Original Xbox exists ( Like a kid's parents or something ) would see the PS3 and see the Xbox 2, and and just assume based off of the numbers, that the PS3 is newer, and that the Xbox 2, must be older. The Xbox One was named that because it means "Xbox, All In One", being able to hook you cable box to it, streaming, Netflix, Blu-Ray, etc. A Multimedia device is what they were going for when they named it that. And no, it's actually a widely know fact that Xbox Live was first launched in 2002 on the Original Xbox. Not on the Xbox 360, and people would play Halo Combat Evolved online.(Which is surprising considering how much you mention Halo, I'd thought you'd know how popular Halo multiplayer was on the Original Xbox )

I grew up playing playstation. I didn't know what an xbox really was till 2010. a friend of mine alway talk about halo but i didn't care at the time. when i first got my xbox 360 in 2012 or 2013 *not 100% switch year between those two* Most of my friend on psn were great but I wanted the dlc first because of call of duty black ops 2. I traded in my 360 for a nintendo ds xl because pokemon x and y came out. my friend thought i was crazy. finally got a xbox one then a pc. Till this day I still have my xbox one, 3ds and my new gaming computer.
