For a helicopter to safely take off, staying on the right side of the height-velocity curve, it needs to build speed, in ground effect, over a runway preferably, before climbing out. Very similar in appearance to a gyroplane take off. Sure, it can break ground and go straight up, but if you have an engine failure and you don't have enough altitude to enter into auto-rotation, you're a dead man. Hence the term, dead man's curve. So the vertical take off, really isn't an advantage.

In the Revo, they prerotate to 450 RPM and there is a collective mechanism that is automated. We'll show more details when we get it in.
