Bless you! I was searching for a truly sugar-free jam recipe and this is the first one I found that can be stored for a long time, and it has all the flavour I wanted without unwelcome ingredients. Blessings from Kathleen of Canada

Traditionally a jam made with plums should use no sugar or other ingredients other than plums. This is the first time I see such recipe with nectarines and it looks amazing!

I really like how you presented the process of canning fruits...very direct and to the point. Thank you

If you flip the jar over on its lid while it's hot filled and sealed it adds extra seal tightness. You will actually hear that pop sound when you eventually open it !
@SA-lw3xi Жыл бұрын
it also ensures that any bacteria in the air gap come into direct contact with the very hot jam
@JaucheSan Жыл бұрын
@@SA-lw3xiis that a good thing ? My initial thought is that bacteria will die from heating but am not sure
@Contrezzo Жыл бұрын
@@JaucheSan I think it's good because the bacteria would need to go from the hot lid at the bottom, to the top where there is no jam, in order to make the food go bad. But because it is so hot, it makes it really difficult, and the jam will last a lot longer because of this (I think, I'm not 100% sure, though)

That's how I learned it. But now turning the jars upside down is considered a big no-no. Still not sure why

Rather than a Dutch oven or stock pot, try a slow cooker to break down the fruit. It will avoid scorching and save energy from having to bring a pot of fruit to temp, letting it cool then reheating it. KZbin already has videos on how to do this.

Does one need to boil the jars after they are filled with the jam so as to get the lid to seal?
@mollreb87772 жыл бұрын
I preserve all the time, once the jam is at simmering point and jars are hot and out of oven at time of filling, once lids on they should seal and be fine, if your jars are cooler and the Jam is too, then you can use that method for additional assurance to preserve. I have a pot stand/base that fits in a large pot. I place and cover the jars with water, bring to a boil for half hour and remove and leave to cool, then I hear all the pops, my preserves have lasted 2 yrs, prob more as we use them up before then, hope it works out, have never made this sugar free method and look forward to trying it on some blackberries now. A wonderful video presentation, well done to this young lady x
