16:44 it’s 100% correct that the death of brainstem is equated with the death of human, but it’s not the person (so-called personal identity) , it’s the death of self concept itself, that generates both consciousness type one and personal identity , that is why humans feel that human is still alive even if he doesn’t respond but his brainstem still functioning.

I think accusing brain deathers of implicit dualism is a lazy knee-jerk reaction at best and intellectually dishonest at worst. The logical end point of identifying a patient with the organism instead of the conscious person, however illusive the latter may be from the clinical point of view, is saying that each of us was at some point a zygote since that marks the beginning of the human life cycle, which doesn't make sense either metaphysically (because the zygote divides into qualitatively identical halves which later develop both into the human organism and the placenta, not to mention the possibility of twinning) nor ethically (since there's no victim in an early abortion).

The main location of self concept is the brainstem stem (it’s one of the most advanced coding systems in existence itself), it may take up to two thousands of years for humans to know if it’s just an instance or permanent entity, for many reasons it’s very likely permanent but it’s still too early for that.

Sometimes the self-concept is not able to generate personal identity and consciousness type one due to a brain disorder, damages,.. etc , and in some cases due to severe psychological trauma, where a personal identity is generated with weak memory and consciousness type one. However, a defect in the permanent memory retrieval process may cause a defect in the process of recognizing his identity the surrounding environment.
