I can tell you feel strongly about your grandparents and parents history. Thank you for the vivid stories. Memorial Day in the late forties meant we all went to the cemetery and decorated all of our relatives graves to honor and share memories. Viberium/Snowball bushes and Peonies were in bloom and we would pick tons of the flowers and place them in glass jars and place them in front of the many tomestones. Thank you for reminding me of those days. We continued the tradition up into the 2002’s until we move to Washington state. Cremations are more common now days and my late husbands ashes will be scattered at the beach…but maybe I can at least bestow the memories to my daughter and granddaughters, and encourage them to make trek back to Oregon and visit and decorate my siblings and their grandparents on both sides of the family grave sites. Those were gentler time and they serve us well.

Granny Pat loved your stories, always do. Felt the urge to tell you what I know about my grandparents. I never met my father’s parents. His mother died in the 1918 epidemic. my father was five years old, with two younger brothers. Their father fell apart. They all lived with their grandparents. Those brothers stayed throughout their lives and helped one another when need be. Their father died of tuberculosis two years before I was born. My mother’s father I only saw once, there is a story there that I 😅wasn’t told. I am fortune to have memories of my grandma. She came from Germany when she was sixteen. She met and made friends with another girl. She became a nanny. She married and had five children. She was a fantastic cook and kept an immaculate home. She lived just up the street from Prospect Park. She used to meet her friend there and they would sit on one of the park benches. I remember her friend, sitting next to grandma, with a fox fur wrapped around her neck, I didn’t like looking at that fox’s face. I remember the trolley car rides to Coney Island and the boardwalk and the beach. I missed the ocean very much, still do. I loved Brooklyn, felt such a sense of belonging. We moved upstate when I was ten. A good opportunity for my father, it was hard on my mother, in particular, leaving her mother, they had both left many relatives and dear friendships. There were many visits back to family and friends. I won’t go on. Thanks for listening. ❤❤❤

Absolutely LOVED that story, thank you for sharing it. I am a 3rd generation Norwegian American, born and raised a farm girl in North Dakota. About 13yrs ago I found relatives in Norway and found out that same day that my precious grandfather’s farm was still in the family. The farm with the house and barn are still standing at around 300+ years old. Eleven years ago my husband and I went over. Oh my, it was emotional. The house was in bad condition but was just amazing. I even placed my hands on the very cradle that my grandpa and his siblings and more used as babies. It is in a Fjord NE of Stavanger. So much more but you get the point. Again, love your videos!❤

Back in the early 1970s, my husband and I drove through Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia and I will remember that as one of the most beautiful drives we took. I just remember with the sun shining and everything so green and the mist still rising in the early morning, it was "almost heaven". Over the years we've been through that area many times. Mammouth Caves being a favorite place to visit. You told a story about a wigwam village and I'm not sure if its the same one, but we tried to stay there several times and it was always booked. Happy Memorial Day to you and we are also remembering family who died in WW2.
