The original incarnation of the Enterprise designed by Matt Jeffries was revolutionary, but you can tell it was designed in the 60s. Its proportions aren't quite right, and the nacelle pylons just don't look like they are structurally sound. Andrew Probert refined and perfected the design into something that still looks "right" 40 years later. Let me count the ways: - increased the diameter of the saucer section - reversed the slope of the top of the saucer - bulked out the connecting dorsal section - added the photon torpedo launcher - new deflector dish - reshaped engineering hull into more of a barrel shape - swept-back nacelle pylons - new sleeker nacelles - illumination of the hull liveries I could go on. Perfect ship.

This ship is almost perfect. I love more tng era style, but this design with the red uniforms of the time (past the first film), are truly iconic… imagine being a cargo captain, moving from an old cargo ship to an old constitution class… like changing an old horrible car with a still old luxury car… the improvement is massive

Great episode! I believe it was during this refit that all areas too small for use by ship personnel were required by new Starfleet regulations to be filled with rocks. Several of these areas were directly over the bridge and have for some mysterious reason, perhaps tradition, been copied into all new Starfleet designs. Kirk Forever!!!

I am late to the party but honestly I REALLY love the Refit Connie more than the TOS style. When I first saw the Refit Connie when watching The Motion Picture on VHS when I was a kid (in the 1980's) I was in love with the ship big time. It easily became my favorite Enterprise design. I liked the narrative you created for this story.
@scottwilliams35952 жыл бұрын
The refit is (in my eyes) the best combination of functionality and beauty of design. With that said, I think we make it smaller than what it really is. The aircraft carrier Enterprise has 25 decks and is 342m long. When put side by side, 1701 is shorter but only by a little bit. At the same time 1701 is taller, the size of the bridge doesn't measure up, or people. Since I was in the Marines, I have seen many carriers up close and I'm telling you, either the 1701 is bigger than what they say or smaller, because the two don't match up.

One of the issues I always had issues with was the problem of the Enterprise (refit) not having any aft weaponry. No aft Phasers nor Torpedo tubes. In Enterprise (show) we learned the fate of the Defiant and saw she was equipped with both aft phaser banks and torpedo tubes. Should those features not have been made standard by the time the Refit came into play?

Although it was never made cannon, according to Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, there was an aft phaser bank under the shuttle bay doors. If you look closely in the flyover of the Enterprise in TMP, you can see it.
@obsideon13432 жыл бұрын
It does have aft phaser emitters both sides of the shuttle bay and at the bottom of the secondary hull. and torpedoes can track a target seen in ST6 same as naval submarines
@AlexandarHullRichter2 жыл бұрын
According to the specs I've seen, there are two phase emitters above the shuttle bay, and four on the bottom of the secondary hull. There is no space around the Enterprise in any direction that does not have a clear view of several phaser emitters.

I think Scotty said it best... "No A, B, C, or D" and in Beta cannon I believe James T Kirk had a part in upgrading the Enterprise, knowing full well of what that starship was capable of and what it could not. I think the convo would have been "Scotty, could you make it better? Aye, Admiral... But could you make it so? You have my word on that." And thus, the only two people who could have pulled off a refit made it so. That's my beta cannon.

That new class used as the Constitution"Refit" was the Yorktown class, right? Technically it was part of the fleet in the TNG era. They say that in the TNG episode the best of both worlds: you can see a constitution class refit just as Enterprise-D inters into the wolf 359 battle field? & you do see the secondary hull of that class damaged. You just about have to freeze frame it to look at it closely.
