Unfortunately Autosparks shut a month ago until further notice! I need a main bulkhead loom and wanted to order it up so it would be ready in a couple of months!
@BritannicaRestorations4 жыл бұрын
Good to know - I bet they have a heap of back orders
@peterjohnson22454 жыл бұрын
I never thought about them having to make to order when I got a chassis loom, so thought I would get ahead of the game a few weeks ago and get the bulkhead loom ordered. They don't say anything on the website just when you phone them up

Was just informed there is a 10 week back order before the shut down!

Autosparks didn't have a ready-made harness for my South African 110 3.5L so they made custom. Took them SEVEN MONTHS! (This was nearly a year ago.). But it was worth the wait and the effort. She runs flawlessly.

Must have been a signal technician doing it all in black, tho signalling stuff is all well labelled.

I think the wiring harnesses of old vehicles are streets ahead of those on modern cars, apart from cases of engine fires, I have never fitted a new harness, but I have repaired hindreds! you are quite right about the damage dome by people who should leave wiring to those who know what they are doing though! Early alternators did use external regulators! I always start on jobs like that by fonding out what the wires do, and if the answer is nothing, which it often is, rip them out!. It is amazing how much quieter you can make a vehicle by fixing all the wiring, and then putting all the bilkhead grommets back in, especially on Landies. All you heed is some old harness wire, a slodering iron, some tape, and yer off! Don't use those compression couplers, load off crap! Love the channel, and miss my series 11A every day! Phil East Yorkshire. I once knew the Lady mayoress of Guisborough, but I would never tell on a lady!

For £270 for a full harness it would cost the customer more in time and materials than buy one

I think a day should do the job - I will not run it in the chassis but put it in a plastic loom on top of the chassis - quicker and less likely to rub

...not a single Land Rover wire in my Series 2....I had to wire the entire motor from scratch......not that that makes it any better! :)

For a great distributor try a Pertronix D177600. About USD $200.

@@BritannicaRestorations Likewise back in the late 70s - I have a later type distributor now so shouldn't be able to do it again! Yes, I remember the clunk as the nut dropped into the distributor on at least one occasion, it is also possible to lose the screw for the points as well. I used an Autosparks loom on my last rebild, but any additions were done in correct colours or sensible ones for accessories, and everything was put in trunking, grommets in holes etc. The idea was to build in reliability plus make fault finding easier. I made my own rear loom so there were no joints under the wing, they are all under the rear light covers.The other thing I did was put a second fusebox on the bulkhead and split the feed to them. This means I now have more fuses feeding the relevant circuits without having to do any alterations to the loom. When I first had mine in 1978, the wiring was terrible, the front offside flasher was wired with television aerial cable (can anyone beat that for crapness?) and the wire to the sidelights was loose so got caught in the bonnet catch, then caught fire the next time the lights were put on. Most of the joints were wrapped together and sellotaped. I eventually gave up trying to repair it and got a replacement front loom in 1984 for £8 but I replaced it with the Autosparks one in 2006 as a lot of the cables were cloth and had deteriorated. Autosparks are located about 20mins drive from here and even the woman on the counter was working on looms!

Talking about the point's gap, you mentioned 15 thousands is 0.254 mil, but that's not right. That would be 0.381 mil.

the vehicle needs scrapping well past sell date.or used for spares.cant see the oil bath air cleaner.
@weaton254 жыл бұрын
If its fixable nothing needs scrapping unless that is the only way to get parts to keep another one on the road.
@harveysmith1004 жыл бұрын
If it needed scrapping Mike would have told the owner. It's not devaluing, if anything it's going up in value so worth repairing. They don't make them anymore.
