@alexhorsburgh598616 күн бұрын
Perhaps the only song to feature old school airport destination boards changing... they're there at the start of the song. 10cc songs were almost like audio movies...Two traditional song writers in Stewart and Gouldman and two experimental art school guys in Godley and Creme giving this four piece UK band depth on a (later) Beatles level.. The line I'm Mandy Fly Me was from an American commercial for an airline in the 1970s..Some say the song is a metaphor for surviving a nervous breakdown...He crashes and the mythical Mandy saves him..

I first heard this track on a radio in the school playground and thought it was McCartney singing. Spooky lyrics. Ex 10cc members Godley and Creme did a similar strange story lyric on 'Under Your Thumb' about 5 years later. Worth a spin.

Thanks for the shout out guys, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, Mandy is a flight attendant but was she real or just a fantasy from seeing the girl in an airline poster? The girl from Dr No (the first Bond movie, starring Sean Connery) was Ursula Andress who came out of the sea in an iconic scene. The intro was a call back to 'Clockwork Creep' from the album 'Sheet music', about a bomb planted on a plane, another quirky song which is done in a very lighthearted way and is also worth a listen. Cheers.

Thank you for doing this suggestion, it's always appreciated. Cynthia, you got most of it right, Mandy was a Flight Attendant real or otherwise as saving him from a plane crash. There's been many interpretations of what the lyrics are actually referring to over the years, but on thing is certainly, you don't get many songs like this, for me it's genius song writing.

Superb deduction. He falls in love with a flight attendant from a poster, "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" was a slogan for Pan Am or TWA. The time signature switch was common in pop songs of the 70's. Space Oddity, Band on the Run, Bohemian Rapsody this song and many others. I think prog/rock was still influential so smart songwriters inserted changes into 3 min. pop music, 10cc being one of best at doing it. Cheers, Love your reactions to songs no one else is doing.

For those who weren’t around, there was a popular national ad campaign in the ‘70’s from an airline featuring their stewardesses, saying stuff like, “I’m Mandy, fly me to Vancouver.” Much of what 10cc did seems to have an aspect of what would be called a satirical view of pop culture… this song is no exception. Please consider reacting to a comparatively new artist: Jacob Collier. He is a multi-grammy winning, multi-instrumentalist, composer/arranger/producer/musical genius who just turned 30 and creates incredible music.

This is a great song on so many levels, so much depth in quite a short song. One of my favourite singles. I think it's a mark of quality if you can write a pop song that falls outside the conventional verse-chorus structure but still have the hooks that hang the whole thing together. Mandy is the perfect dream girl, and losing her is like finding that space in your heart that can never quite be filled.

Why not go straight to the beginning of the 10cc story and take a listen to 'Neanderthal Man' by Hot Legs (the 'band' that later became 10cc). It was never meant to be a single but was an international major hit in 1970. A great story and very influential track.

Before you die you'll appreciate listening to 10cc's first 6 studio Albums, '73 to '78. Always have the lyrics available. All 4 are brilliant songwriters and musicians and singers, very clever, very funny, very theatrical, a complete one-off band. Listen to their work chronologically. Genius band from Salford - home, inter alia, of the Hollies before them (and Graham Gouldman wrote songs for the Hollies when a teen) - and Joy Division/New Order after them, who recorded at Strawberry Studios which 10cc owned.
