Supertramp and Pink Floyd are tied as the “Goats” for me. The musicianship, the production, the assortment of instruments, the lyrics…..are all on another level.👍❤️🎸😎🇨🇦

I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing Supertramp “The Tramp” LIVE 3 times. Their music is pure brilliance from each member of the group. Rick Davies - My Favorite Piano/Keyboard Player. John Helliwell - Favorite Sax player. Roger, Bob and Dougie are all awesome. Their Live shows are spectacular. I only put Pink Floyd (4 times) one place higher for their shows.

Hands down, my favorite song on this album. It’s just so lush and layered like any good Supertramp song! I can hear so many different instruments all over the place and I love how Roger’s and Rick’s voices compliment each other and play off each other. Terrific song.

Pretty sure this was the first album to sell a million copies in Canada. A Diamond award. They were absolutely huge in Canada and Europe. Saw them with about 40,000 other people back then. Seriously big stadium act. The main reason you probably never heard of them is because they split up many years ago.

When this album was released, I worked in the high school radio station. I got to crack the cellophane, put this album on the turntable. This song was the first I’d known of Supertramp. I heard this song and had to hear the next. I only took the album off the turntable to turn the album over! Every song was LIFE CHANGING for me!

This is the only Supertramp album I know, but BOY do I know it! It came out when I was in the 8th grade. In addition to half of these songs getting constant airplay, the album was on my turntable often, as I jammed alone in my room. I'm SO glad I grew up with all the great music of the 70's.
@fredrichardson3932
@fredrichardson3932 Ай бұрын
This album came out in 1979, but helped kick off the music of the 80's. It was 'New Wave music ". This is one of my top five songs of all time, and I was 17 when I graduated from highschool and started college in 1984. So I grew up through the greatest decade of music in the history of the planet. It's a favorite, mostly for some personal reasons, but also because it is an unbelievably fantastic piece of music. The album cover was genius. That is New York City behind the statue of Liberty (the waitress holding up a glass of orange juice for a flaming torch, and instead of a Bible in her left arm, a menu for an American diner where they serve "Breakfast in America") Manhattan, behind her does have the twin towers and cups and salt & pepper shakers and fork's and knives for piers around the city.

This track was probably the first CD I played on my new Hi-Fi back in the early 80s. I turned up the volume and sat back between the loudspeakers. The complete lack of LP surface noise meant that I had no idea just how loud that opening crescendo was going to get.

This album is one of those you drop the needle on and it stays on your deck for a while. It's like Dark Side in the sense that you may know all the songs as singles but when you sit down and listen to it front to back it becomes something else. This is a "concept record" in my estimation so the order of the tracks and little parts that connect one song to the next are things they poured over for who knows how long because they had to complete the vision they had for the record. This is the first song on the record, it sets the mood and direction and it folds right into the second track Goodbye Stranger. It's a good listen if you guys ever decide to check it out.

They are not underrated actually - here in Europe they were huge (and right so) and still a lot of people listen to their albums. Crime of the Century is one of the best (not only prog) albums ever produced, every single song a gem. It is as good as an album as Dark Side of the Moon and Misplaced Childhood. These three are somehow comparable.
