I saw 10cc perform earlier this year in the UK, celebrating 50 years since forming. Only Graham Gouldman is left from the original line-up (on the left in your band photo at the end). They are amazing live, and still come across the pond to tour. 'I'm not in love' is one of the best love songs ever written ❤🇬🇧🎸

I believe that 10CC were four individual session musicians who decided that they should make some money for themselves, hence the vast difference between each of their songs. Eminently listenable at anytime

Guitarist Eric Stewart had first era of success with Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders, who became just Mind Benders and had a hit "Groovy Kind Of Love" halfway the 1960's. Bassist Graham Gouldman was an established songwriter before 10 CC, having written hit songs "For Your Love" for The Yardbirds, "Bus Stop" for The Hollies among others. Lol Creme guitar keyboards was in various projects that involved drummer Kevin Godley. The foursome did a pile of singles under various names before settling to Hotlegs and then 10 CC. All of them lead and back up vocals. Godley and Creme became leading video directors of the 80's in Britain, e.g Duran Duran "Girls On Film".

Song by Lol Creme. The song has a double speed guitar solo by Eric Stewart. He slowed down the tape to half speed while recording it with slow picks and then speeding it back up after recording. Gives an unusual sound but they did it as an experiment. Kevin Godley and Lol Creme did a song called An Englishman In New York. It's s great song with a very technical video.

Great song. I like the clever contrast of the slightly ridiculous pastiche and the dark undertone of the lyrics. I'm Mandy, Fly Me is even better. Rubber bullets were much in the news at the time because British soldiers were using them for crowd control/riot suppression during the troubles in Northern Ireland. I remember a kid at school, who had a brother in the army, bringing one into class to show us. I was amazed at the size of the thing. More educational and relevant than a lot of what we learned.

From left to right on the band picture - Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Lol Creme, Kevin Godley. Lol is the lead vocalist on this, with the falsetto. Kevin is second vocalist including second falsetto! Graham is the baritione "watcha gonna do about it?" and Eric is the harmonies. Lol is also lead on Donna, The Dean and I and Life is a Minestrone. Kevin is also second on Donna and The Dean and I, and lead on all Godley and Creme! Graham is lead on Dreadlock Holiday. Eric is lead on pretty much everything else you've ever heard by 10CC as well as The Mindbenders - Groovy Kind of Love. Graham is the songwriter of For Your Love, Evil Hearted You and Heart Full of Soul for the Yardbirds, when he was 16. He mostly plays bass for 10CC but also plays other stuff. Eric is the engineer, he mostly wrote songs with Graham but also wrote with Lol and Kevin, and, despite the terrible picture, was considered the eye candy. He mostly plays lead guitar for 10CC but also plays other stuff. Lol is mostly seen about to break into fits of giggles but is something of an innovator. He mostly plays guitar for 10CC but also plays other stuff. Kevin is the scary looking one that has all the strange ideas, who shares my birthday and mostly plays drums for 10CC but also plays other stuff. They were equals.

Fantastic band who always had a sense of humor. Sometimes pop/rock, sometimes artsy. Always interesting. If you're interested in going deep try Feel the Benefit (parts 1, 2 & 3), Overdraft in Overdrive, Sand in my Face. The Wall Street Shuffle, Art for Arts Sake & Good Morning Judge. If alcoholism and terrorist bombings don't trigger, The Anonymous Alcoholic and Clockwork Creep are darkly hilarious satire.

Godley and Creme invented something called the Gizmo. It was a set of little wheels that spun, creating Modulating sounds. Im not sure, but that might explain part of the unusual guitar sound here, or this could even have been before the Gizmo came along....
@mightyV444Ай бұрын
Little wheels that spun while slightly rubbing against the guitar strings, in order to create violin-like sounds 🙂 I think there had been plans to mass-produce it too, but it didn't take off as it was too difficult to install properly. Kind of the forerunner to the E-bow 🙂
@KillerBl8Ай бұрын
The gizmo wasn't on this, it was Eric mucking about, playing at half speed then speeding it back up again - bloody engineers.
