This is the first part of the taper attachment assembly. It was pretty time consuming and I tried to capture some of the more important things so I made it two videos. Hope you like it!

The guys that engineered the 10EE really knew what they were doing......what a great machine!!!!

Oh absolutely! I know people often say they don't make things like they used to and to a great extent that's true.. however, some things are clearly better today but things like machine tools from the 40's 50's are standouts!

Wow! Great catch on the eccentric bolt. I think polishing everything that you can is also a great idea. Reminds me of when I went through Warrant Officer Candidate School in the Army. We had a saying "if it doesn't move polish it."

Just found your channel and subscribed. I work on a 10EE daily but dont own one (wish I did!) but love to see how you bring them back to life. It will help me keep the one I run in good shape. Thank you!

There is nothing 'overboard' about doing a professional job. That attention to detail and determination to have a fine finish makes all the difference. For instance, you spotted that one bolt that was not eccentrically ground where others would have missed it. Looking forward to your work on the cars

Kevin, you just kept me from making 2 significant mistakes. Thank you. Thank you. I wrongfully assumed that the lower bearings had 2 eccentric and two straight bolts. Fortunately I haven’t disassembled the small carriage yet but could have easily taken it apart before putting witness marks on the two pins. I love the quality of your paint job and look forward to your next video. Cheers, Will

@@fourpondsshop7940 Kevin, More than helpful. I mean it when I say your videos have been terrific to watch and extremely valuable to me as I am moving forward to finish my own 10ee. Watching your process has also been an educational experience. You not only have excellent skills and a well organized shop, you thoughtful process to approaching the project has given me a chance to see some of the weaknesses in my own work. I have pretty good skills, plenty of space and tools, but I’ve always depended on my memory less than a systematic approach to tool rebuilding. I’ve been successfully rebuilding various automotive, industrial wood, machining and welding equipment for over 50 years and my aging mind just needs a more organized approach, or simpler projects. I think I’ve gotten some great ideas from watching your process and really appreciate you putting yourself out there in your videos. Thanks, Will

Will... So I spent the better part of my life looking for tools that I just put down or a part that I stored in a "safe place", never to be seen again. As I got older, those frustrating moments forced me to rethink my organizational skills.. And, I have worked very hard to become more organized! Not easy as we age! I guess what I realized... As I got older, the more time I waste looking for things, the less time I have to get my projects finished before I depart to that great workshop in the sky!

@@fourpondsshop7940 Kevin, that’s pretty funny. I can’t stop chuckling. The other part of that equation for me is a combination of many, many years of collecting “good stuff” and having created enough money to buy even more. My good news is I’ve started selling machinery that I no longer feel the need to keep; 30,000 lbs in two years. What’s remaining I’m making great strides to organize. It feels better and is more efficient. We learn. Cheers, Will

Brilliant move to cover that plastic lens with acetone and let it pool, then evaporate. I'm going to remember that because I've made the same mistake. Thanks & keep up the great videos!

Chuck, you have the ELS but no taper attachment, what’s up with that? Now I’m not quite as jealous because I have the taper attachment on my 10EE, but no ELS.

Nice Work ! and Nice Machines ! ... The placement of the non eccentric bearing stud on the inside left (tail stock end ) closest to the bed is for alignment AFTER taper attachment is installed on saddle (vague alignment process in owners manual). Inside right bearing adjusted with indicator to edge of back bed-way left and right side to run parallel during use (within .001 if possible). Outside bearings tight enough for 0 clearance and free movement. Monarch is one of the best hands down design taper attachments made for accuracy and virtually no friction if kept clean .

Thanks! So that makes sense. I'll give it a try when I'm wrapped up with all the refurb work
@azenginerd94983 жыл бұрын
Only a guess... it seems the eccentric arrangement is set up to provide a rotational alignment capability about the one fixed bearing in addition to a width / clamp / gibb adjustment like on the first component you assembled.

What happen to part 19? I was looking for the procedure to install the felt wipers in the taper attachment carriage. I remember you talking about the u-drive pins on the carriage, and how you removed them...

Hi Jim... It was a while ago that I did that work. I'll have to look back and see if I captured that.

ridiculously overboard!! I don’t think so you’re attention to The details is one of the reasons I watch your videos. i’m curious do you have any idea how many hours you have in your 10 EE so far?
@fourpondsshop79403 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I'm glad you appreciate the work that's been going into this project! As far as hours into it, I haven't really been keeping track of it. Most of the time I get to spend on it are stolen moments here and there. Occasionally when its a cold rainy day, I'll spend the whole day in the shop focused on the lathe. I would say that if it was my full time project, start to finish, probably something like a month...200 hrs or so.

Did you get the parts diagram from monarch?
@fourpondsshop79402 жыл бұрын
Yes, call Monarch and ask for Terri. If you have the serial number, she can look up you exact machine and send you the documents that have on file for that machine. Wiring diagrams, parts lists etc along with the operation manual seems to be generally avaialble. I think I paid $75 for it. Its a 3 ring binder that they put together. It's a bit pricey but I think its worth it.
