Did you have any issues aligning the tailstock to the head? I did a lesser rebuild on a 1954 10EE and discovered a 0.02" sag in the tailstock once I had everything back together. I cannot adjust it out...the offset is up/down. I temporarily shimmed it up to see if that helped and it did. I fear I have to do something more permanent
@fourpondsshop7940
@fourpondsshop7940 Ай бұрын
Hi Walt, yes on the first 10EE I did, the tailstock was a few thou low. It was already shimmed. I redid the shims to get it very close in fact I cannot measure the error. I think shimming is ok

Hi love watching the rebuild process, I have a question, im in the process of rebuilding my taper attachment on my I/M 10EE. What bearings did you use for the top piece on the taper attachment. The piece with the closely coupled 4 bearings. And are they the same as the bottom 4 bearings on the main casting? Thank you!
@fourpondsshop7940
@fourpondsshop7940 6 ай бұрын
Hi! So I'm pretty sure I got those bearning on Amazon by using the number on the bearings. I figured they are rarely used and of course low speed so the quality wasn't a big concern. The original bearings were very gritty and had stiff places so they really needed to be changed.

Good deal showing the stiff Woodruff key. I put my compound together just before a move and knew I needed to revisit it. Looked up 10EE compounds and here I am. Pretty sure you pointed out my issue. Just an FYI if there is a next time. Without the wing clamp installed, you can slide the collar part way on and there is sufficient clearance to put in the plug, screw in the wing clamp, and then slide the collar the rest of the way on. Just a little less juggling.

Hi, Yes I did verify and I couldn't detect any wear with the exception of the tail stock on the first 10EE.
@brandontscheschlog
@brandontscheschlog 6 ай бұрын
@@fourpondsshop7940 you need proper equipment to actually verify how much wear they have and 10EE’s are good at hiding wear because of the span of the carriage ways especially since they move such a short distance. Not only that, but the parts you’ve replaced throughout your videos indicate that wear has had to of occurred. The work you’re doing is beautiful, but you’re hiding it’s true condition with a shiny paint job.

@fourpondsshop7940
@fourpondsshop7940 Жыл бұрын
Hi Carl, Thanks for watching. So I did record in HD but I'm using power director for editing and it updated and I didn't realize that it defaulted to a lower resolution rendering. I didn't see that until I posted the video to youtube. Always learning I guess!! So it milled the part using 2d adaptve clearing which runs around the perimiter, up the the selected profile, taking a depth of cut that you specify in the set up. I did it this way because if you just run around the outside contour, the waste piece will break loose and most likely mess up the endmill or the part you are making.

If you are coming out undersize on an operation you can adjust that with the tool wear option on the mill program.

Thanks Jack... I'll have to give that a try. I'm guessing the 1/4" endmill might be a little undersize because the larger hole made with a 3/8" endmill was spot on.
