One of the best rebuild series I’ve seen on KZbin in a lot of years. Keep it up!

The finish on the cross slide is fine. The apprentice marks are acceptable also as thats part of the history of the lathe. Very nice rebuild, I wish I had half of your patience. Keep smiling

Hi Darren thanks for checking out the channel! I appreciate your comments. I like the characterization of the cross slide damage! It's a positive way to look at it!

The machine is looking beautiful! Can you say that about a machine oh heck why not! hey don’t forget to keep me on your list of people interested in the 30 inch

Thanks Mike! You most certainly can say that about a machine if it truly deserves it! And I think the 10ee does

When you check the slack in the cross feed screw and nut be sure the taper bar is clamped on the back of the taper attachment. There can be a little play there. In any case .006" play there is not bad at all. BTW: The 10EE is designed so that one wrench is required for all normal operation, a 9/16 open end and 3/8 square end. There are several makes and you can find them in ebay. I've aligned the slide in mine, just remove the chip shield on the headstock end and mount an indicator to the bed referenced to the slide. Adjust the swivel so the headstock end is centered and the other is on the 0 mark. Run the carriage back and forth and adjust for 0 on the indicator using only the cams on the headstock end.

when you get the taper attachment rod holder made up. be sure to lock the taper adjusting knob at 0.. and the taper guide at zero thru the lens.. then run the table back and forth with the dial indicator on like you did with at the end of the video.. then adjust the 3 eccentric screws on the taper attachment so you get ZERO crossslide movement when going up and down the bed.. on the eccentric screw bearing preload against the slides.. those probably have to have a significant amount of force to prevent the tool bit from pushing the crossslide and taper attachment back from the workpiece..

Adjust the taper attachment using the 3 cam adjustable screws so the taper attachment move parallel to the bed ways? Another great video filled with good information and tips. Thanks. Cheers, Will

Try turning the shields for the taper attachment over I think you may have them upside down. I do have an original clamp for the taper attachment rod, I will send you some photos and dimensions of it.

Thanks Mike! So according to the drawing in the monarch manual, the way I mounted them is what's shown. Do you have a picture of your suggestion?

I could use the measurements for the clamp too. Please let me know. Thanks!

Another great episode! This is going to be an awesome historical reference. Just a thought, if someone has the part that we need and they would be willing to take pictures of it against a rule. Then I think we could 3D model it and make a pattern. Who knows, maybe Clark @WindyHillFoundry would be interested in a collaboration.

Hi love watching the rebuild process, I have a question, im in the process of rebuilding my taper attachment on my I/M 10EE. What bearings did you use for the top piece on the taper attachment. The piece with the closely coupled 4 bearings. And are they the same as the bottom 4 bearings on the main casting? Thank you!
@fourpondsshop79408 ай бұрын
Hi! So I'm pretty sure I got those bearning on Amazon by using the number on the bearings. I figured they are rarely used and of course low speed so the quality wasn't a big concern. The original bearings were very gritty and had stiff places so they really needed to be changed.
@Anotherhomeshopguy3 жыл бұрын
an awesome look into how that taper attachment works!! I'm no 10ee expert since I don't own one...(YET! lol) but I think you're thinking along the same line as I am.....since there was one fixed setting and three adjustable and the fixed was on the side attached to the lathe, I would assume once attached on the lathe you use one adjustable on the side of the lathe to adjust the channel to be parallel with the bed ways, then use the two outside ones to adjust for preload/slack? regarding the missing casting, If I had the 30, I could probably borrow a buddy's and send it to Cattail foundry to have a few copies made. =)

Great video. I had one question related to the rod on the taper attachment. I am having to pickup missing parts for my taper attachment on the lathe I just purchased. What does the part look like that the rod screws into on the bottom side of the taper attachment frame? I just have two holes on each end with nothing in between. Thank you
@fourpondsshop79402 жыл бұрын
Hi William, On my lathe, the rod threads into a threaded hole right next to the way wiper closest to the lathe frame. Let me know if you need more info...glad to help
Who's the engineer that designed the 10EE? Need to make a statue of him

There is a thread on Practical Machinist Forum posted by "Vettebob" from 2017. He casts the brackets for $100. It doesn't appear as though he has posted in a while. Maybe someone has his contact info?
