You had mentioned a few months back that this was coming, I guess I missed when it was posted in my feed. Definitely learned a lot and this will help a ton going forward. Thank you.

Very useful testing, I searched on Asus website and found that XG-C100C have 4lane on PCB, but actually it just achieves 10G via 2lane, perhaps 4lane is reserved for PCIE gen2 x4?

Exactly what I needed! I'm looking at an ASRock N100 Board which says it has one PCIe 3.0 x16 (physical) slot running at x2 electrical. I want to install a 10Gb NIC in there, so that should work! Is there anything to look out for PHYSICALLY when inserting a x16 (or shorter) PCIe card into a x16 (physical) but only x2 electrical slot? How does this work physically? I mean: The x16 PCIe cards will have these gold-plated contacts across the entire length of their connector, right? Will the x16 phys (x2 elec) SLOT only have contacts across one eighth of their length, then?? Which eighth? The leftmost? Or are the contacts spread across the length of the slot? Will any length of card I plug into a x16 phys (x2 elec) always be ensured to make contact with all the necessary contacts of the slot? Or do the x16 (phys) x2 (elec) slots have contacts across their entire length as well but the signals coming from them are only transferred with x2 UPSTREAM? Or is there a possibily that for example an x4 card will not reach all required contacts to get 4 lanes if some of the contacts are on the right side of the slot where the card physically doesn't reach with its length?

Awesome info! I greatly appreciate the extra info you share as it furthers my love of computer knowledge! It would be great to see a video on how the cards performance differs with different settings for this card (various Jumbo Packet sizes, etc) and how a CAT 5 ethernet cable may or may not affect the throughput :)

CAT5e will work but only for short distances. 10gb speed can work on CAT5e but only up to 147ft/45m. I don't have a BERT tester or ethernet tester to test Jumbo frames but in general if you set MTU to 9000 that would be equivalent to using Jumbo frames. Depending on the application, it can help with bursty traffic.

I was actually searching for exactly why some of these 10gig cards are PCIE 3 x4, when the bandwidth doesn't add up. Makes sense now, knowing that they were just reusing PCIE Gen 2 designs. Finding out the card can actually function with just the 2 lanes was very unexpected!

It seems that your hard drive does not provide speed access for transfer

it would be 9.91 with jumbo frames, 1500mtu usually limits to 9.5 from my experience

What about if it is dual 10gb does that change anything?
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
Yes, then it will need 4 lanes.

At first, I thought he had 10Gb internet speed. 🤯

Having a PCI-3.0 card is a lot more expensive than having a PCI-2.0 card.. ( I was looking for a dual one )

What about ASrock 670 steel legend?
@GameTechReviews Жыл бұрын
The Steel Legend has an x1 and an x4 slot so it can support this card via the x4 slot to get the full speed but the video is focusing on getting 10g speeds on only x2 lanes.

ok, will this card improve my ethernet for downloads from the net, at the mo in UK the fastest I can download from an external source via ethernet direct to my pc is 16GB per hour (approx)?

No, but it would be great for computer to computer links, or if you have a high performance NAS device.
