10HP Mini Quad + 12" Swing Arm!

Our tiny ATV with a 10 horsepower Tillotson 212cc engine is cool in theory, but in reality it's absolutely TERRIBLE to ride! There's no suspension, and all it wants to do is wheelie! So today, we're adding about 12 inches to the wheelbase by adding a huge swingarm to the back of it with taller rear tires!

So dig this: Ya'all have never done it, BUT- a jack shaft thats set up to go right thru the swingarm pivot would solve all your "tighten/loosen" problems, and give you additional gearing options so you dont have to run such a huge rear sprocket that it touches the ground before the tires do............... I had a Mini bike that had that once and it worked KILLER!

It needs a torque converter. That would also get the pivot point further towards the rear axle.

Well a torque converter isn't going to change the gearing any plus you get belt slip allot more than chain slip. Unless you mean adding a jackshaft?

A 30 series torque convertor has a low gear ratio of 2.7:1, and a high ratio of 0.9:1. Combine this with the ratio of the chain from torque converter to rear axle and your overall gearing is much higher.

@@mattpsawell obviously if you have a jocket shaft. Edit- The current gear ratio is about 5:1 if using 12t/60t, or its 6:1 if using 10t/60t. Can you get that with a torque converter? They could just use another chain setup on the jockey shaft using the 36t they already have with another 12t for another 3:1 for an 15:1 (or 18:1) drive overall. A CVT isn't anything magical. Its still big gear/small gear the same as sprockets, they take up more space and give you variable speed in return that's all. @@tomstech4390 a 30 series torque converter is not a "fluid clutch". There is a driver and a driven pully. They work in tandem to adjust the gear ratio with regard to rpm. It's also completely bolt on, and would increase the torque almost 3 fold, with almost no belt slip. A second chain with a jackshaft would also work, but would be more difficult and require custom fabrication.

*CarsandCameras* When you were mocking up that new rear with the big tires, it occurred to me it would be sweet if you had attached the new wheels out back, left the original small drive wheels on, and made it a tracked vehicle utilizing chopped up truck tires "stitched" together with wire or hinges, ECT...I saw a quad redone that way by searching YT for "DIY tracks on quad" and it was epic. I think that design would eliminate popping wheelies and add cool factor for sure if you could work it out. At least try it on the 420cc quad in the future! Excellent videos guys, I like as well as thumbs up and watch the commercials for every single upload.

Adds allot of weight and size and its already struggling to get moving plus it reduces the amount the front wheels can turn and they already have other quads. This was meant to be all lot of power in a small space the swingarm is just to prevent wheelies and be more cushy to ride.

Smaller tires would increase acceleration (lower gear ratio) fellas if you have a set laying around that would bolt up that would help. Love the builds guys. Keep em coming!! It'll be fine... 👌🏼👍🏻

Tire size is limited be rear sprocket. You can put smaller tires on but you have to run a smaller sprocket undoing the benefit. If they go too big sprocket/to small wheels the sprocket gets destroyed by the road and mud. 85% of wheel diameter is my best guess.

The current gear ratio is either 5:1 or 6:1 depending on 10 or 12t clutch housing and thats already too high, going to a 2.7:1 would barely move and like trying to start off in 5th plus the added weight and size taking up the whole left footboard. If they're running a 12t clutch they just need to switch to a 10t and it'll instantly get 20% more torque at the wheels.

Yo put some kart slicks or some turfmasters on the back of that. Something crazy wide. make it a FunnyQuad. Or sand paddles, for dirt drags. You definitely need smaller diameter rear tires than those huge meats. it'll help your gearing out a lot
