Glorious stadium and pitch, and glorious 80s shorts.

Tremendous game of football, remember Nigel Callaghan getting goal of the month for his second goal. Watford were criticised at the time for being a long ball team, but this shows that they could play on the deck as well as anyone!

Over 2 seasons in the First Division, the 4 games between the two sides resulted in 25 goals, including 2 x 5-3 wins to Watford.

Nigel Callaghan's 2nd goal - CRACKING!

The criticism was mostly unfair and much of it was orchestrated by a few individuals from Fleet Street who got upset when Watford had the audacity to tear up the script and win against their favourite teams (generally Spurs and anyone managed by Terry Venables).

I went to Meadow Lane that season with Bristol City in the FA Cup Round 3 and the centre section and the one to the right of the goal was full to bursting with City fans. City were in Div 4 that year and Notts Co in Div 1. They were lucky to get away with a 2-2 draw. City conceded as softer a penalty as the one in this game.

That's crazy to think City was in division 4 back then. Ironic how Notts is now a non league side.
