I find the realization in my everyday routine that my day is brighter after I catch up on checking on Jackie and Shadow... I feel like they still feel last seasons Heartbreak.... They don't seem to be bringing in Fluff for comfort and security for this season like other couples are... I feel like maybe they are still hurting..I pray for them everyday that they have the gift of healthy babies this season. They are...Without a doubt..Exceptionally Wonderful parents...I just Love the both of them...

Yes of course. We are happy to help! The tree is in a remote location in the San Bernardino National Forest. Since it's on federal land, we must follow all rules and regs of the USFS. The first camera was installed in 2015. We hired a biological tree-climber to install the camera. Someone who not only understands how to climb trees, but can also install cameras and microphones without damaging the tree or any of its habitats. These climbers use gear with ropes and pulleys known as climbing hand ascenders and arm strength to pull themselves up the 150 ft tree. They do not use their feet against the tree to climb (no spikes). They must also have both the federal and state permits required to handle bald eagles as a federally protected and state endangered species. Our primary goal is always Jackie and Shadow’s safety and nesting process and we only approach the nest during the off-season, when Jackie and Shadow's visits are not frequent.

@ste8120 Snow in Big Bear area is necessary for not only the flora and fauna of Big Bear Lake...but all of Southern California. No snow means drought for millions of humans and animals. As well as severe fire danger. Jackie and Shadow are accustomed to snow and cold weather.

Hi there! The nest is about 145 ft up in a 155 ft Jeffrey Pine tree. It is at approximately 7100 ft above sea level, one of the highest elevation Bald Eagle nests in the US! Hi there! Egg laying season differs depending on the geographic location of the nest. It’s driven by the amount of daylight hours (photoperiod) birds are exposed to. The further south, the earlier the eggs are laid. Historically, January is Jackie's favorite month. However, eagles in Southern California are known to lay through April. Hope this helps!

Hello! If an egg does not hatch, it may get covered with new nesting material, eventually break down and become part of the nest. The eggs may also be preyed upon by other animals in the area, such as ravens.

Hi there. Jackie ^ Shadow together have had 3 chicks. Cookie unfortunately did not make it to fledge. Simba fledged from the nest but was found deceased at a later time. January is the egg-citing time of the year, when we all gather around our screens and wait patiently in anticipation of the first egg of the season. Jackie is known to lay eggs as early as the first week of January, but it may happen as late as in April. This wide window always keeps us guessing!
