I picked up the new 40mm Explorer 1 at the beginning of the month. I had never tried one on and it wasn’t even really on my radar. But I was in Vegas for a week for work, stopped by a Rolex AD and decided to try one on since they had a display model. I fell in love instantly, it just fit me perfectly. The day before I flew home that same AD called me, said they had one available, but only if I could pick it up that day in person. New AD to me, I had no history with them, but they called within 3 days to offer me the watch. That’s all she wrote and I can’t take it off my wrist ❤ For sure my favorite, most unexpected watch of the year and one I’ll keep for a lifetime. Merry Christmas!! The thing about the Celebration Rolex is that it matches with everything you want to wear. It can be dressed up (formal) and be a conversation piece, or dressed down for a casual, coffee shop piece. Not only that, it’s a “fun” Rolex. It covers all the bases.

2023 will go down in my personal history as the year of Tissot; two in particular. The Tissot Ballade, so modern, clean, and elegant. Plus it's a COSC certified chronometer under $1000. I bought two colorways, silver dial and black dial. I picked up the models with the knurled bezel rather than the fluted bezel, because I like the more unique look. Secondly, the Tissot Heritage Visodate, with its classic mid twentieth century design. I bought a blue dial to celebrate a new job, not an easy feat as a laid-off 58 year old. But I started wanting the silver dial as the year went on. The light silver dial is almost white. It reminds me of moonlight. I snagged one a couple of weeks ago and I'm wearing it now. It's gorgeous and I'm loving it. Tissot has definitely become my favorite brand right now.

Great video. All are beautiful watches. I went to my local AD a few weeks ago and planted the flag for an Oyster Celebration. She walked me to the other brands in the store and tried peaking my interest in that inventory. Ok, I really like Oris. And who knows, I might get a call at some point for a Celebration if I buy something else first. My big concern with the AD is I get the call - I'm retiring next year and the Celebration could be a good story for the AD - I show up to their location, and I'm given the opportunity to buy it with a price tag in the neighborhood of $25k. I ain't doing that.

The SeaQ was a real surprise but I’m with you on that one personally, it’s just the Rolex hype, yet I’ve a sea dweller 4000, which is great but I’m definitely an omega guy, and I just added the SMP300 diver summer blue to my other Seamasters. I’ve a beautiful GMT master 16700 Rolex too a beautiful vintage watch. The seaQ is on my list for 2024. Keep up the great content Wills 🇬🇧

I got Citizen Series 8 sunburst blue dial as an impulse buy due to a great price. This watch is such a great one. Looks like integrated sportswatch but its no. Also you have 20mm lugs so any strap would work. The case shape is epic. Got me a lot of compliments from watch ppl and from the laity 😀 (I was considering PRX then but Im so happy I went for this one..)

So difficult to name a watch that kept the home fires burning for me this year but, if pushed, I would have to go with two watches: my Bulova 214 Space View (for its wonderful, industrial age visage and insane technical innovation for the late 50s) and my duo of Junghans Max Bill (a 34mm manual and 38mm automatic). Three hands, no nonsense, clean designs that strip a watch back to its most uncluttered and visually pleasing form. A watch needs to be a statement for me. It doesn't need to be a brilliant timekeepber because, like everyone else, I have a mobile that offers a level of accuracy that will slaughter any mechanical watch at any price point so the last thing I actually need a watch for is telling me the time.

I love my Seamaster Professional 300, but honestly the coolest watch in the video is the JLC reverso. It can go casual, but is the absolute bomb dressed up. A bit pricey for me but maybe one day! BTW I think the reverso is much cooler than the Cartier Tank.
