Thank you so much for your video. You will never know how much it fed my soul. I so enjoyed hiking along with you. I have hiked portions of the trail and hope to finish this year. Thank you.

Great video and commentary. The part about picking up the hitchhikers had me cracking up! Looks beautiful up there.

I Did the Long Trail to Stratton Mt recently. It's tough for anyone who is just getting back on the trail. I'm 65 and thought I could do 15 miles a day. I halved my mileage perceptions. Those stairs, randomly sized bolder rocks acting as steps, down to Rt 9 are a challenge to old catcher's knees. The climb back up is no treat. Had a great time though with my nephew who let me set the pace. Slow.

Hey thanks for this video diary of your recent back-pack on the LT. Having recently (myself) been section-hiking some of the same section of trail, I thought that you got some of the highlights (but always so much more, isn't there) and also rendered an honest account of what back-packing in Vermont is like. Though it is so hard to portray everything, like how wonderful the wet fall woods smell. I really took it to heart the comments (also below in the comments section) about eating on the trail. I never eat enough! If you don't eat enough, you'll pay for it. Gonna try cereal for a snack. Day glow was crackin' me up at 20:02. Thanks

woodstrider5 I had no idea Day Glow did that until I went in to editing. It definitely made me chuckle as well. I should try cereal as well. I did go through a couple of bags of Fritos on this trip. Highly recommended with the sun kist chicken salad.

Guys, thanks for attempting this and posting some good video on YT. I have been day-hiking weekends for the past 1-2 years and want to hike the VT trail after doing a few over-nighters locally. I typically hike 10-15 miles per day. Hence, I would need at least 3 weeks off work to hike this bad boy. Keep on hiking! LightWalkter, AMC CT Chapter

Steve McGuinness get out there and do it! 10-15 will get you there. If I did it again I'd go in September and try and be done by October. We were on the back end of leaf season and ran into snow. Good luck to you.

I hope you had a good night at David Logan shelter. I am the GMC volunteer shelter adopter and try to keep it in good shape. At least the privy has 4 walls and a roof! I have always thought that starting SOBO in September and following the turning leaves south would be cool. Fall is the best season on the trail. I did my 2003 thru hike in Sept and early Oct.
@TallJoeHikes8 жыл бұрын
That was a good shelter! It was pouring rain all day that day and it was quite nice to be able to get out of it and warm up. The shelter had no leaks and was clean! Thank you. I agree about the SOBO idea starting end of Sept. Starting mid October, we were on the back end of the leaves. Still gorgeous but the further north we got most of the leaves had already fallen. I'll be back one day to finish it!

Hey bro, I actually bailed out on my last Kong Trail thru hike at exactly the same place! I also started in North Adams. Freaky! ☮️ I have done like 85% of the Long Trail but never have done an end to end.

It really sucked to have to bail but I'll be back one day to complete it. I've hiked around Mansfield and Camels Hump before as well. I hear that the trail is much more difficult on the northern half. Get out there and do it end to end!

I see your wearing what looks like an Osprey pack. I have an Osprey talon 44 that has taken me through the Adirondacks Northville Placid Train and wonder what model your pack is? Thanks, Tim

Thanks much - btw, I hit the same "calorie wall" that you described in the video on a shorter thru-hike near my location. I was really unprepared for the eating and hydrating aspects of the hike. Thx again.

I am starting to plan to do the long trail in late August or early September. Hoping to do the first leg to the split with my Nephew in a 7 day period. Do you think we can do this in the time allotted given a stop in Mansfield for resupply?
@guyhays34326 жыл бұрын
I meant Manchester.
@TallJoeHikes6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what kind of hiking shape you are in. I assume you mean Adams to Rutland. Based on my AT Guide its roughly 120 miles. Thats about 17/day. In my opinion thats asking a lot of someone unless they have been hiking all summer.
