People in the comments saying that the patch could have been mistaken as the Buddhist symbol need more context about the ENTIRE symbol used for the patch. This exact symbol is called “the Nazi Eagle” and was used by all military personnel in the Third Reich between 1933-1945. This patch was also specifically put on a military uniform for the promotion (hopefully not by the stylist herself). I know that the swastika was a Buddhist symbol in the beginning but in this context, pairs with the spreading eagle (which was stolen from Ancient Roman culture btw) it no longer cast any doubt of what it symbolises. The Nazi Eagle was a symbol of hate and oppression so in this context it was a hateful symbol. PS. I don’t hate on the girls AT ALL this is their stylist and companys fault whom should have known not to put them in this kind of outfit. We live in the 21 century and somebody at some point in the styling and editing the pictures should have noticed before it was published.
@s_k2482 жыл бұрын
Good knowledge there. But please refrain using the word swastika in your comments. If you want just refer it as Haken Kreuz Or Hooked Cross.
@swecheekypanda2 жыл бұрын
@@s_k248 I only used that word in the context of the Buddhist version of the symbol. I’ve always used the word “hocked cross” when we learns about it in school. We never called it swastika in school unless our teacher told us that the Buddhist version of the symbol was called that and that it should never be mixed up with the hocked cross.

@@s_k248 my country was neutral during WW1 and WW2 but we took a lot of refugees, especially children. Because off that we focus on information about the wars, both the good and the bad. Although it’s more focused on Europe as I live in Europe we try to incorporate the Asia/American side of the war too although in my opinion we should focus on it more then we do at the moment. It was a WORLD war after all. So every country that took part should be included in the conversation and education.
@skarbuskreska2 жыл бұрын
True, same happened with a hat in a shooting for Namjoon of BTS. Someone just bought stuff for their clothing pool of shootings and it was a Nazi cap. The idols just dress what is given to them, it's not their job to check the dresses. They are also often not educated enough as young people. Like I'm interested about the world and 46 years old, but cannot know everything about every culture. Let's say for example the Red Khmer used a certain symbol, I just know they existed and killed a lot of people, but wouldn't know exact symbolism. But if I had to make shootings and find something on a dress or use a statue or so, I would see it as my job to check stuff, which is also way easier with the internet today.

those are all old news but anyway in PK case is clear as the day that they didn't knew a thing because they put it probably thinking it was part of the USA Army symbols, call it an assumption on my part but to put those 2 patches together say it all afaiac (maybe a factor that helped the error to happen is also that eagles are kinda known worldwide to be part of the American iconography)
@salembejaoui18802 жыл бұрын
No there's no excuse for this. That symbol is literally the emblem of the Nazis, the big bad of World War 2. It's not something that a non 3rd world country wouldn't know about. It's not an issue that is directly tied to just a country or a continent, the whole world was involved in this
@itsbierce2 жыл бұрын
Maybe with the eagle part you’re right but there’s no excuse for the other symbol. the N4zi symbol is known world wide and ww2 in general is such a devastating part of history that kids already learn about it fairly early in history classes. I blame the company for this mistake.

People need to learn to stop hating on the idol when they have a scandalous outfit like the Purple Kiss member.. When it’s just ugly people hate the stylist Yet when it’s scandalous people hate the idol Some netizens need to grow up and learn that idols (especially rookies) barely ever get a say in their outfits and even if they do their choice is often overrided by the company and stylists.. not only that but their not properly taught about issues like the nazis which is hardly their fault.. most of us learned these things in school but they didn’t or not well enough to properly grasp the seriousness.. and that is something that the Korean school system needs to improve in.. you shouldn’t be going like “they should’ve known better” because how can you know something if you never learnt that thing? maybe give them a chance to learn before sending death threats their way and fight for the education system in SK to teach such topics better

They didn't know the signs because They don't teach any history about world War II in South Asia and Southeast Asia. Asian countries have so much of their own history such as it's colonial history and their own freedom struggle from the imperial colonies etc to teach that nothing of WW2 is covered except the name that it happened between the countries. All the information about world War is gained by media Or entertainment sources such as movies. I think Japan might have WW2 topics covered in school as they took part in it and was greatly damaged by it The aspects of WW2 which are mentioned in history textbook will be in correlation how that was impacted in that particular Asian country. And this might also be true many East Asian countries. They will only have just names in their history textbook and no further information will be provided. In case of Korea only Japan from WW2 would be mentioned the most. So an average high school graduate will not know about the history of WW2 except for few names and dates and how it impacted their country and no insights of war like what emblem an army used etc. And I think all the idols and stylists are at least high school grads or if they did pursue higher education, I doubt they will pursue more in the field of history rather than their own specialization such as music or designing which will help in their career; so they must be unaware of what insignia was used by a certain army. As you can see in the purple kiss costume there is US Airforce written above the eagle and hooked Cross so it seems cheap clothing and not some high end brand. As purple kiss is not popular internationally not sure about Korea and RBW not being among the big company they might not have provided enough budget to the stylist. So they must have used some cheap clothings and stylist must not have altered it as it was just for year end photoshoot. They didn't know the history and had no intention to hurt anyone's sentiment. And after people pointed out the idol herself apologized even though it was not her fault. Mistakes happen. It is human nature to make mistakes and people should also forgive her for such unintentional mistake.

@@s_k248 Then why are they using US/European style if they don't care about the history, this symbol is not juste a mistake it can really hurt people
@s_k2482 жыл бұрын
@@clemy5511 That is modern clothing not something US/European style. Are they wearing some Native American outfit from USA? No. Are they wearing something from the Victorian era from Europe? No. All the modern clothes are practical and easy to style. Is something military inspired a part of history for you. Nowadays every military of each and every country have the same style with few modifications and different design. Why would they deliberately hurt the people they are not even targeting. Did they parade the symbol in front of the victims? No they don't even target the international audience. Then on what basis or proof do you have to be so sure it was not a genuine mistake.

@@s_k248 I'm not putting any hate on to the purple kiss member. What I'm saying is there's a stylist and a ton of people involved in that photo shoot and in the company who should have saw that and said this is not appropriate we're taking it out. N if the Asian counties dont teach certain history like World War II that's ridiculous that's part of History. It's called World War II for a reason because it involved the world. And I'm mainly offended because I'm Jewish and the Nazis killed my people. No hate to the purple kiss member. I'm blaming the stylist the company and all the people involved in making the decisions of wat they are putting on their artists.

@@HjG_902oNcE0_ArMy See what has happened was very tragic and nothing like this should have occurred. I am personally sorry if by this you have been affected. But you have to also understand that the history taught in school doesn't cover the world war topic directly. As all Asian countries were not the part of the war they were mere colonies. I don't know why this is called World War 2 when it was just fought between mere 30 number of countries which majorly consisted of European countries except USA and Japan. Back to the point so most of the Koreans are unaware of the symbol. Just as most of the West might not know about the oppressive past of Asian countries. For example the rising sign symbol a sign of Japanese oppression and is highly criticized in Korea. Most of the people in other countries might not know about this. So here the RBW and stylist might also be completely unaware of the fact. And upon realization both RBW and the artist had apologized and said to keep this in mind in future. This is their first mistake which was intentional so you can forgive them. But if the second time they make the same mistake in future then they should take responsibility.
