RTI is RTI, if don’t expect much you won’t be disappointed. I purchased an italian Vetterli and a French Gras Calvary Carbine. Both were in less-than great condition but it was as expected. They cleaned up good (I refinished the stock and bluing on the Vetterli and the same plus the brass on the French Gras) and the are hanging prominently on my wall in my office. I think I am going to get more antiques and restore them.

I think the reason the Carcano is relatively inexpensive is that they weren't as sought after as all the other mil-surp collectable guns. years ago, I picked up a Russian capture K98 for less than 200 U.S. Now, they are anywhere from 800 to "Sky's the limit" depending on rarity. The age of collecting mil-surp guns is over. What is left is what was always the last to sell in the golden years of collecting military guns.

@GarandGuy2553 Ай бұрын
I mean, in this exact moment the primary reason Carcanos are so inexpensive is because the supply has exponentially exploded in the last 3-4 years. But yes, prior to the recent supply glut, they weren’t really sought after so prices were also depressed. It’ll probably stay that way for 20 years.

German guns have always been a fairly hot market. Even back in the Bubba epoch something like a Kar. 98a or K98K was always more desirable because a bit of sawing and sanding and you had yourself the closest thing (for cheap) to the flagships of Remchester. For Axis guns, the Germans have always been the most popular. The Japanese and Italian guns were always dogged on as junk (even though they aren’t) and prices have remained low. Japanese stuff is definitely going up in price but you can still get common Arsenal and Series Type 99’s for peanuts compared to similar K98ks. Italians, nope. Prices have gone up over the years but the common guns are still cheap. I don’t see them going up like the K98k’s unless some sort of game or movie really sparks some more intense interest in them.

@@Dominic1962 If you compare Carcano prices today with what they were going for in the early 1960’s, adjusted for inflation, they’re about the same price. Again, the supply is pretty insane right now.

I managed to snag a 5 bayonet carcanos from RTI when they were selling them for 99 bucks I also had a really good year for collecting. Lots of RTI stuff, but i also do my own refurbishments so any rough shape rifles dont concern me

The biggest thing I look for , is to make sure its a common cal . If not , I stay away from it . Exseption for me , being the 7.62x25 . Being a pistol cal . You can quickly get a lot of rounds , when you find it . 5-6 boxes will keep me going for awhile , because my pisols are only a secandary .

@@tolik5929 yeah, being a collector you get into a lot of cartridges that aren’t as easily obtainable. 6.5 Carcano is fairly available now, especially online but getting all the reloading equipment ready to go for these.

I liked your disclaimer at the end about antique guns being a dubious investment. I 100% agree; collecting them is more so a labor of love. About the $149.99 Carcano cavalry carbines, RTI's description says, "These rifles will be at $500.00 value in a few years.", though the exact number of years is unstated. RTI will probably be out of business by then...in 2087.

@@moredistractions exactly! I don’t see the value of Moschetto’s jumping up for another 10+ years. Even then, that money would’ve made you more money on the stock market over the same period of time. It’s a hobby, not an investment, at the end of the day.

Some nice pick-ups. Shame about the 1919 Lithgow SMLE. I'm sure you'll be able to replace her at some stage with a nicer one. I've got a 1922 Lithgow (very few made in 22) & a 1942 Lithgow. You've got me well & truly beat when it comes to Carcano's, as I've only got one (for now anyway), a Model 1891/41 (Terni), so she's from right at the end of the Carcano family lineage. Nice SSAA Polo. Cheers fm Australia 🇦🇺

@@GarandGuy2553 hi mate. Carcanos are (like the US) a relatively cheap Milsurp, however I would say 90% of what is advertised online are M38 Carbines (the ones with the fixed rear sight). In Australia we have 2 main online sites for trading 2nd hand (& new) gats, & in the last 18 months, I've seen 1 x TS Special, 1 x Cavalry Carbine & maybe 2-3 full length 1891 rifles (all 91/41's). Everything else is M38's. From what I've seen, on average 91/38's go for A$300-$450 (which is about US$200-$300). Exchange rate is about US $1 = A$0.65. The TS & Cavalry Carbine were far dearer around A$775 & $900 each respectively. Those prices don't include shipping which can be A$75-$300, depending on what state to state transfer it is between. Sadly I live in the worst Aussie state for gun ownership & shipping costs to WA from East Coast are very expensive (& not always possible) due to our states police & Govt making it in many ways too difficult, to the point that some East Coast dealers now refuse to ship to WA. As a example in WA, a Collectors Licence (equivalent to your C&R), only permits you to own, "NOT use" a Collectors Firearm. Per the letter of the law, a firearm on a Collectors Licence is not even allowed to leave your property/safe unless with special permission from police.

@@jamesvatter5729 Technically, yes. You have to record the rifles you acquire with your C&R license and the ATF can audit your log book. However, it’s incredibly rare and C&R holders are the lowest priority for them. I’ve never heard of a C&R holder ever having their logs inspected and they don’t just bust through your door randomly.

@@GarandGuy2553I had it happen once years ago. They called in advance, and a female agent drove two hours north of NYC to check my log and how I stored my guns.
