Wow....says quite a lot about the industry as well.
@jeffoliver7491Ай бұрын
@myronschabe The ticket sales from shows just about covered the running costs of the tours - venue hire, hotels for the band and crew, transporting all the equipment, paying the crew, and so on - there was no profit. In fact, their second world tour didn't even break even, they got home barely able to pay their crew. They only earned some money from this Red Rocks gig in 1983, which was towards the end of their third world tour, because a TV network put money forward for the show to be filmed and they got paid for their performance from that money.

Red Rocks amphitheater is perfectly tuned for the midrange & treble 'wash' of bands like U2. Also anything with strings. Bass doesn't bounce as well, and really screaming/wailing lead guitars or soprano voices are deafening in the reverb. But a nice 'chka chka chka chka' rhythm guitar, tenor voice, sharp drumming, & lush keyboards/strings fit the venue sooo well. It's like the world's biggest DELAY pedal.😀 Local band DeVotchKa, with the CSO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZmYiaeId6h1fNE

And I still play and discreetly dance behind closed windows to their early stuff. Musically though, they were pretty simple. They then went through that commercial sell out period (Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum...when I traveled 100 miles to see them in Pittsburgh, but los Lobos was more fun as an opening act), then they got to the point, they could dictate terms. Then they could creative again. What I was astounded by was, how many Irish people didnt like them.
