I’ve been in Oz 3 years. Was a MUFC season ticket holder before I left the UK. Now a Dolphins member, watch religiously and go a few games a season. Hardly watch any live Premier League games now. It has surprised me how quickly I have given up on the football. The greed, wages and lack of shock results there are these days has done it. Up the NRL!

Mate, as a fan from your first weeks in covid quarantine I have watched your journey with a lot of joy. I would have to say you are now so Aussie it might never again be possible for anyone to refer to you as a whinging pomme. I reckon you are right on the money with your thoughts about the similarities between RL and American football. I have said to many that in terms of sports philosophies both codes have attempted to do a similar thing in adapting the sport of Rugby to make it an interesting game. Cheers Ross, you often make me laugh, but this just made me smile.

Nice one Ross I am a die hard Knights supporter we have our ups and downs unfortunately in recent times there seems to be more downs than ups. Their faithful supporters still fill the stands for every home game regardless of where thay are sitting on the ladder. Newcastle was actually a foundation club when the game started in 1908 here its all about tradition and the community getting behind their local boys and girls especially when they are up against the big spending city clubs. It amazes me how certain big name clubs are able to buy every top player that comes on the market and still be able to stay under the salary cap. . Lucky the Knights girls have won a couple of NRLW premierships in the last 3 years maybe the men should be looking at recruiting some of them.

What NRL has over most other similar sports: a) players actually get injured, and then get up and keep playing, not fall on the ground in pain if a small leaf hits them, unlike 'football' or soccer, and b) the big burly blokes run into each other without benefit of dressing up like a medieval knight in armour, unlike gridiron.

@@libatalklieb5793 See “Hitch Hiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” and interpret the “DeepThought” character’s primary attribute, as the character self-described. I think that the name was author Douglas Adams’ little joke, being an oblique reference to the pseudonym for a high-level anonymous source used by the Watergate investigators from the Washington Post, the source being known as “Deep Throat”. This was the name of an infamous Hollywood film released at around the same time as the Watergate scandal broke. I could have used “42” instead of “DeepThought” but I thought that would be too obscure and not convey properly my somewhat narcissistic thoughts at the time.
