In your zone you could push out a lot more before your first frost. Im not sure where exactly you are, but if you are zone 8 you are way south. I am 7b. I can still get out another round of pretty much anything like peppers, corn, tomatoes, eggplants, okra, purple hull peas, etc. Warm weather crops. You may need to drape some shade cloth because of sun scald but you still have time. Pest pressure will be the biggest issue. I plant my brassicas, cold weather crops, here about middle of august from seed. They push all the way to december usually, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, etc. Good luck and dont forget some type of shade cloth even if its old bed sheets tied onto strings you can slide like a clothes line to give a little break if summer sun gets to hot. I use bamboo poles and string to drape and slide around if need be. Good luck.

Simply Gardening, Yes we still have time for some of those things as well. Some of those can be pushed further out, for sure. Some of the things you mentioned we can plant in August for a fall harvest. With the weather being so unpredictable I don't want to set the beginners up for failure. We want to make sure we give ourselves plenty of time for a good harvest. I do find that some things grow better in the shade here in the blazing southern heat, even if it says it takes full sun. The Sun and heat can be brutal on those plants. I Love your bamboo idea. I may have to mental this to the family. Thank you for taking time to stop by and share your knowledge with us. Hope to see you soon on our journey. Happy Homesteading.

I like how you laid out your list and added little comments regarding each plant. I am in zone 8b/9a sort of...lol. You know how that goes when you talk about weather. Nice how you mentioned and even explained the almanac reference. It takes resourcing much information to help be successful at growing food. Thanks for your help. Jesus bless.

Sandra, Thank you for watching, I try and make things as clear and easy to follow along as possible. We all learn differently 🥰. It does take a lot of resources for sure. Not everyone has the same growing style, and what may work for one in a specific grow zone may not work for someone else in that same zone. I've definitely learned this lesson. Thanks for joining our journey. See you soon. 🙂

We live in Zone 8B in the Mohave Desert in NW Arizona at 3,000' elevation. Gardening is interesting but hard. We have a tiny garden patch but enjoy it. We currently are in a bad spell of 106-108 degree temps for the next week (has been 3 days of this so far and counting). My poor Bantam Golden Corn is nearly giving up. I do water 1-2 times daily with the hose. I have an Early Girl Tomato is partial shade of the carport in the morning and full Sun in the afternoon. We also have Bush Sugar Baby watermelons growing and those do fine. The cucumbers are alive and doing OK but the Zucchini and Crookneck Squash is struggling. I also have a Honeydew Melong. All other than Sunflowers and Corn are in big plastic pots and 2 small raised beds.

@lindawoody8501 I have been to the Mohave Desert, and man, the heat can be brutal. I used to grow my tomatoes in the afternoon sun and struggled to have a good harvest. I moved them to the afternoon shade and have had better luck with my harvests. Zucchini and Squash do kinda wilt in the afternoon when the heat is at it's peak. I try and keep those watered as they tend to struggle in the heat. I have not yet found a way to keep them from wilting they usually look fine again in the morning. I hope you keep trying different things to see what better suits your climate. Thanks for stopping and chatting. It is helpful to hear others experiences. See you soon Happy Homesteading 😊

Grace, Remember winter squash takes 60-100 days to mature. So as long as you have time before your first frost, you've got time to get those seeds in 🙂. Good Luck and Happy Homesteading.
