Mexico it's a massive and diverse country; every state has its own culture and accent. "A nation made of nations" said the head of the World Tourism Organization in reference to the huge difference between states. About race, I would dare to say that we are as diverse as the USA, there are white, black, Jewish, East Asians, Arabs, Amerindians and mestizos (mixed) Mexicans. All of them well integrated into our society, we've even had black and indigenous presidents in the past, way before USA.
@fccl98916 жыл бұрын
Yeah there is this big misconception in the USA that all mexicans are the same race and that we all look like Pancho Villa, the problem is that mexican-americans instead of trying to help fix that misconception they fuel the ignorance by claiming all mexicans are all amerindian due to their own ignorance of mexican history and culture. As you say we are as diverse as the USA, maybe even more.

"You don't look Mexican at all, your so white"? The ignorance from the U.S. is astonishing, and baffles me a lot. Do they even realize Mexican is a nationality not a race? It's like saying your white but don't look American, that's just playing rude what they say about you, and the rest of us.😒 My dad is Portuguese, and my mom is Italian, but both of them were born in Mexico. Thank you for clarifying that, guys, both of you are amazing people.❤
@mcuevas26 жыл бұрын
Alfonso Torres you are absolutely correct. Mexican is a nationally NOT a race. Therefore Mexicans can be of any race. However it is very frustaring to arguee this point with Americans who have never left their country. Most Americans are afraid to step out of their comfort zone. The other day someone told me that he went to Mexico city and was surprised to see that they have a subway system. Really people?!!

M Cuevas It is very annoying, and very frustrating indeed. Mexicans come in different shapes and colors and most humans no matter where you’re from. Anyway, Guadalajara has many areas where a lot of foreigners live there’s your Jewish community, Germans, Asians, and of course you have a huge white community especially in Ajijic, Jalisco and Lago de Chápala which is about an hour drive form Guadalajara. And regarding the language or accent not too sure because I believe the Spanish we speak is the same as any Spanish in the world maybe just the accent is different not sure to me it’s the same.

I don’t think it’s very polite to answer in English when the question is in Spanish, even if I notice that the person asking it is struggling with the language, I think that if I did answer in English it will make them feel stupid. When I feel that it’s really hard for someone to speak Spanish I often ask if they would appreciate me trying to communicate in English. Occasionally I find out that English is not enough because it turns out that I’m trying to talk to some guy from Finland or Norway who also struggle to speak English.

Joy Macias, you nailed it.

Sorry if you or anyone feel that way but the truth is that we don't do it as a sign of disrespect. Compared to the US, where many Americans get offended by people talking other languages rather than english, we Mexicans don't care at all. If people talk other languages apart from spanish, and since many Mexicans speak a second language, if we see someone asking for help and notice that they speak a language we know, we'll usually try to respond to them in their language as a sign of welcoming. Never as a way to make anyone feel stupid. That's not the case.
@imagesfromLA6 жыл бұрын
Mexico is just like the U.S. when it comes to foreign language. In some parts of the U.S. Americans don't want to hear other languages, but in some parts of the U.S. Americans don't care if people talk other languages. Mexico is exactly the same way. I personally know of several cases of Americans speaking English in Mexico, and being told by Mexicans to speak Spanish. Whereas in other cases Mexicans don't care what language people are speaking. If I were in Mexico trying to speak Spanish, and a Mexican started speaking to me in English, It's disrespectful. It's like you're saying you don't speak my language good enough for me to even bother with you.

I remember him telling me when we were in 'Guadalajara" about differences in the Spanish language and that he was always learning. As for my Mom, well she spoke what we call "Cali Street Spanish" (Lots of slang and mixed English-Spanish words). Dad tried to correct her but gave up, the first time in Guadalajara (lmao) nobody could understand her and she got mad and actually berated this nice Mexican lady for not knowing how to speak Spanish properly, My Dad was so embarrassed that he gave the lady $5 US (At that time, like $50 to her) and apologized. The western accent or acento occidental from Jalisco is very distinct and it’s marked by the cadence, although we will say that we don’t have an accent, I think we speak with an acento cantadito. CDMX has, I would say, 2 very distinct accents, the upper class called fresa and the lower class accent. Personally I would say that the CDMX accent has almost like a whining tone, it’s also what most people abroad think most Mexicans sound like.

There’s a place called Tapalpa its a “pueblo magico” my family and i love going there once every month its an hour away from Guadalajara thers many things you can do there like going to “las piedrotas” or some thing funnier like ecopark (its a mountain place with some activities) if you have the chance I really recommend tapalpa for a weekend or something.

You hear the rain coming before it actually starts raining. Also, it might be raining across the street but it would gradually be coming closer till it gets to you. My most recent visit to Mexico City, Guadalajara and San Luís Potosí was in 2009 and 2014. Many parts of those cities look like Colonial Spain (for a reason) Had a wonderful time. Life is so relaxed and it feels like you are in Europe (Old) not the present state. Mexico has so much history and things to see (Pyramids, Maximillian and Carlotta's Castle, Museums where the Aztec Calendar is located) etc.etc. Great Video.

LOL and as I watch this video, today July 3rd it also started raining here(we had a break from the rain Sunday and Monday), that's GREAT more rain means plenty of elotes for our elote addiction,....hehehe...yes they have a distinct accent, the bread from which tortas is made we call it 'bolillo' while in Jalisco they call it 'birote' and various other words that can be confusing even from Mexicans from other states. LMAO you talk about so many vegan and vegetarian eateries and at this moment you're at KarnesensuJugo! But yeah, that food is AWESOME as well, those breakfast plates were also very NICE! :D
@luis_zuniga6 жыл бұрын
Joe Serrano here in Tampico we call the 'bolillo' “Pan francés”, the reason why we call them like that its, according to the popular story, because during the French occupation of the city, corn was hard to find, and bread like baguette, were too expensive so, the French army created a smaller, cheaper version of the baguette and started giving them to the city’s inhabitants. All of this with the idea of gaining public support for the 2nd empire. With time we started calling this bread 'pan francés'.
@qualqui6 жыл бұрын
Luis Zúñiga, A most interesting story ya share here, I had the idea that Northern Mexico preferred bread and wheat flour tortillas, it wasn't 'til post revolution(with Tata Lázaro?)that corn was introduced there. A friend of my mom from Tampico showed her how to make a very good wheat flour tortilla while my parents were up north. Who would have thought the Pan Francés makes an AWESOME Torta and fried guajalotes(pambazos in CDMX)and recently found out, makes a GOOD Bolillo French Toast!! ;)
@luis_zuniga6 жыл бұрын
Joe Serrano well Tampico its located at the "border" that divides north and south Mexico, I mean you cross the river and you'll find yourself in Veracruz, a southern state; that could explain why we had access to corn before other parts of northern Mexico.

I keep telling people about how different is the rain here in USA and in Mexico. Right there in Mexico, we can actually hear, smell (maybe not in the city, but in open land, you can smell the wet soil aroma when there is some wind) and see the rain coming.... Many times I had to run fast to avoid getting a shower (literally a shower). Really? you have a mexican background? ...anyway in Guadalajara and all around the whole state there are many mexican blue eyed gueros. Great video.
@opheliavalentine60586 жыл бұрын
Charlie Eagler It’s More noticeable in the country side but the reason it’s so amazing in GDL is because the Guadalajara area is smaller compared to other cities in the world which makes it easier for rain to enter the city. Cities like Los Angeles and Phoenix are so big that they create a heat island effect which causes heat to be trapped in the city and it makes it less likely for rain to enter the cities. Rain clouds literally go around the cities and it’s a huge problem that many U.S. and other large cities are facing.

Mexico has the Spanish mix from when they went to Mexico. Some got busy with our women and Behold there came Mexicans with Blonde hair and Blue or Green Eyes. Not all Mexicans are 5'1 and brown. 😂 Yeah there's different slangs and variations of Spanish spoken through out Mexico. In central Mexico they called Soda "Refresco"...and in places like Baja California they say "soda". Similar to how in The west coast we say "soda" and in the east they say "Pop"

Im from Jalisco and on Tuesday/Friday mornings we leave the garbage outside of our house and a garbage truck will pick it up. And on Tuesday/Friday afternoons we take out the recycled and plant based things just as banana peels and grass. And a recycle truck will pick up the recycling items and right behind it the plant based truck will pick up the trash. So while they drive around the neighborhood they will play a calling or song on repeat. Almost like an ice cream truck. This will tell let you know to take out your waste. If you won’t be home around trash pick up. You can just leave it out before it’s time.
