Point Reyes is such a wonderful place! For reference, the best time to visit Drakes beach is late January - Mid February. That is when the adorable elephant seal pups are on the beach. The wooden bridge you showed on the Abbott's Lagoon trail is a great spot to see the family of otters that lives near the beach (just be sure to give them space). Additionally, the Drake's Estero trail is a worthwhile hike: It has beautiful views of the Estero, many wildflowers in the Spring and lots of edible berries along the trail depending on the time of year. The Estero is home to bat rays and leopard sharks, which you may also be able to spot from the shore when the tide is high. When the tide is low, Sunset Beach at the far end of the Estero trail is a decent spot for tidepooling. Look for purple shore crabs hiding in the rock crevices.

About 8 years ago I got to take a girl who was born and raised in Colorado to Point Reyes. Snapped a picture of her first time seeing the ocean. Such a cool moment.

Beautiful locality. By the by, there used to be an Air Force radar site at Point Reyes until the late 1980s.

One of my favorite spots. I like the wooden fence that was split in half during an earthquake long ago near the visitor center.

As luck would have it, the wife and I are headed out there for a few days starting later this week. One of my favorite areas North of SF and really looking forward to it. Thank you for all the great tips as always.

This video was a flashback when our boys were little. We walked down to the epic lighthouse 300 steps. Thank you for reminding me of our epic vacation to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes. We will never forget the amazing wood fired pizza at Cafe Reyes.

What a beautifully done and informative video. I live in Sonoma County and learned a great deal from watching. I'm eager to head to Pt. Reyes again.

This is where I spend most of my time. I absolutely love it there 😊 The Shipwreck has really degraded since last years storms. The Point Reyes side has collapsed 😢

I stayed at an Airbnb in Point Reyes Station last time and ate there, it was great. You can also drive in from San Rafael, which is longer but cheaper.

When you do long trips do you typically rent a car? I am planning a trip from Los Angeles to north cascade national park and back to Los Angeles. How would you rate the reliability of a car rental and is there any specific rental companie you prefer?

lighthouse is hit or miss, you might have to get real lucky
@kenw.45394 ай бұрын
The Lighthouse is currently open 7 days a week, 10 am-4 pm with the lens room open 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm unless winds exceed 40 mph which will close the stairs though the Lighthouse Visitor Center may remain open. Currently we have two live-in volunteers that allow the Lighthouse to be open 7 days a week instead of the normal 2-4 days a week due to staffing. This may only last 1-2 months more unless the volunteer assignments are extended. Please always look up the NPS Point Reyes page for Lighthouse hours as it could change day to day.
