Ever find it hard to say no to things even when it makes you feel unhappy and impacts your physical or mental wellbeing? It is not uncommon that we experience pressures, from peers, family, friends, or society, for us to conform to their wishes even if it goes against what we believe in or what we truly want to do in that situation. But don’t feel guilty for saying no and setting healthy boundaries. Looking for tips on how to set healthy boundaries? To help you learn the art of setting boundaries, here are a few things you should say "no" to!

@The Genderqueer Cringy Emo YOU aren’t worthless. YOU matter, anyone who makes you feel unwanted aren’t good people. Toxic people aren’t fun, they hurt people mentally and physically. Dangerous situations can be fun, but only when controlled. Anything life completely life threatening and not worth it, well, ISNT worth it. People who scare you, make you feel unsafe, and other things, are AWFUL. People who make others feel they are going to be harmed or other things aren’t good people. I feel worthless so much, I’ve had so many mental breakdowns recently, but I keep going. You NEED to be strong. I get opening up can be hard, but you need to talk. If you can’t talk to people in real life, try venting online, anonymously. You can find longtime friends. You deserve SO much in your life. SO MUCH. You are an amazing person and you deserve the world. Putting yourself down won’t help anything. If other people make you feel down and you believe them, they’re winning, and you need to not let them. Make sure to eat healthy, drink enough water, do things YOU enjoy, and let your emotions out. Let yourself cry. If anyone makes you feel worthless, they’re toxic. You need to distance yourself from them and let yourself thrive away from them. If you physically can’t distance yourself, distance yourself by limiting your interactions unless absolutely necessary. You need to ENJOY your life, anyone who stops you from enjoying your life isn’t good for you. I know I’m just a random person on the internet and you may have heard this so many times you feel it has no meaning, but you need to try to help yourself, or you’ll just never be happy. You need to help yourself, no one else can. If you don’t try to start, then you might never start at all. It will get better, I promise. If you feel unloved, just know, that I love you. You deserve to be free to be yourself and be loved, you deserve to be happy. You’re an amazing person, even if everyone else and yourself says you aren’t. Please, keep going. For me. For everyone who cares about you. Because I promise there are people who care. You can do this. I believe in you. So you need to believe in yourself, and take a step in helping yourself up. Remember to take care of yourself, this goes for anyone reading this. I may not know what goes on in your life, but please, try not to let that shape what YOU want to do in life. You are the most important person in your life. I hope you feel better. Just know, it takes time. Sincerely, A non-binary person 💜

I have to remind myself to say "no" to toxic people at work and family especially when they disregard my feelings, unwanted, negative self talk, comparisons. Say "yes" to growth, to healing, to being brave, bold, determined. Say "no" waiting, to other people's opinions, or shrinking yourself to fit in.

@@avymationz7024 I grew up in a very toxic home until I was 22 and even had to move back a few times so I empathize with you greatly. I know you can’t physically be away from them for now but you can choose for their words and actions to not influence you so much. It’s literally a muscle you have to grow yourself but trust me one day the way they act and things they say will not effect you at all until you no longer have to be around them, unless you choose to. Start with something small that they pick at or lash out about and stop yourself in the moment and tell yourself “this has nothing to do with me, I am *insert opposite of what they say here like smart, creative, important etc* and try not to engage back with them. It’s uncomfortable at first and you’ll slip up sometimes but over time it will save you a lot of emotional stress. You are valid and I’m grateful for you for posting this comment. Please take it one day at a time and I promise you will one day sooner then you think know what it’s like to be in a safe and happy home with people in your life who support and understand you. I used to write out my ideal home and life and focus on that whenever someone would try to make me feel small. It too time and courage but now I have that freedom and o appreciate it so much more because of my past. One day this will all be in the past for you too, you are not alone❤️

This is so easy to fall into at work especially. Since they are your coworkers, you can't walk away the same way. I had a coworker who was toxic and narcissistic, and it was hard to say no to that person, since they were manipulative. What I did, was to think about what would really be the consequences of saying no? If it's that person's responsibility to do that task at work, what would I benefit from it? The answer was most often nothing. I still have a hard time saying no, but when I do say no when a toxic person who wants me to do something for their own benefit, it really boosts your confidence. Thank you for this channel! It really makes you aware of your own self worth. ❤

Saying no can come with a lot of guilt, because we are taught to be more considerate of others than ourselves... but the balance is important, and so is drawing boundaries for what you can accommodate and make room for in your life, and what you should never have to put-up with.

If someone doesn't accept no for an answer, that's someone that's seeking to control you. You have a right to speak-out than to suffer in silence. Only controlling individuals will get bent out of shape if you speak out. Those are individuals that don't value you or respect your decision.

They have found that by getting bent out of shape. That's how they're going to have their way with you by getting what the want. Don't be intimidated by their anger it's a psychological game. Man, "Say no to negative self-talk". I've been working on this one. It's hard. So, I say to myself, let's go for 1 hour without calling myself names. Then 2 hours. There have been days when I have been positive to myself for a good 6-8 hours. But it takes practice. It took practice for those who taught me to feel worthless. So, now I just reverse the process. I'm 58. If you are younger than me, you'll have an easier time with this if you start right away. It can be done. I am proof. Even though I'm not totally 'fixed' yet. I still can have 'good days'. And it is worth the effort.

The last video on this channel I watched listed the toxic traits of all the different personalities, indicating everyone has a toxic trait or two. This one opens with saying no to toxic people. Add this to my experience of witnessing people calling other people toxic who were in temporary physical or emotional pain. I’ll say no to toxic behaviors but refrain from viewing people as toxic. Some people who dont understand empathy think anyone less than positively happy is toxic, and this does nothing to clear that up. There are ways to protect your boundaries and still respond with compassion without judgment. Judging people having a hard time is toxic, so I will politely say no.

Saying "NO" to negative self-talk and Saying "NO" to comparing yourself to others are what I really need right now. As they said, yourself is your worst critic. There is no use in dwelling on self-destructive thoughts and comparing myself to other people. Focus on the things that you can work on to become the better version of yourself.

I'm usualy a "yes" person because I don't wanna let anyone down, because I wanna make people happy, not bad, but Sometimes is hard because of people that use others, and I don't wanna be manipulated, brain washed, used, ect... I also wanna be myself
@DanielSelk

Well, you are going to "let down" some people, but the world doesn't stop turning because you don't want to do things. When I started to say no people didn't like that I wasn't doing what THEY (not me) wanted me to do. But it was such a relief to not be doing those things and being able to be myself. Very worth it.

My happiness is more important to me than saying yes to someone just to make them happy. If I don't want to or disagree with someone, I will tell anyone no to anything at anytime even if I know it's going to make them mad or hurt their feelings.Im not gonna make myself unhappy to make someone else happy.

I didn't realise how powerful saying no can really feel until I turned down the last two invites from my disordered family. My first polite refusal was to a family wedding. I said no and then was silent treatmented for a while and then I turned down last Christmas family meal. That was accepted without any passive aggressive comeback (to my face anyway) I had the first peaceful and enjoyable Christmas I've had in years and I felt so proud of myself. I'm turning down the upcoming family BBQ when the invite comes, and every other invite that I normally get anxiety over. Nope, no, nah. I love those words now. No guilt, no shame, just peace.

For me saying no to people or situations is really complicated, i tend to put other before me and is really hard when i have my mental health on the line because of it. One of the most hard thing i had to say no was a interview for a good job this summer, i felt like i was doing something wrong, my mother was upset with me and i didn´t know if i did right. But for my mental health i kept my decision and hearing someone say is okay to do that for my mental health is all i need it to hear, so thank you for helping and i hope you keep with the good work, love you

What a great video. I had real trouble in my younger years saying no. It is so liberating. I grew up in a toxic household which has effectively meant distancing myself from my siblings. Saying no to them has lead me to happiness. Fortunately, I chose my wife well. She is a gem. We have an equal fulfilling marriage.

I used to say yes so much to the point of constant burn out...then I finally started to say no and at first people didn't believe me when I would say it and literally go "Yeah, sure. I'll see you there." Then when they found I was being dead serious they got VERY angry with me. But I held my ground and did not cave to their wishes and the more I did it the more I found I'm actually allowed to do what I want no matter what people thought and it was so freeing! =) I'm not a yes man anymore. If I don't want to do something I won't do it and I won't stand for toxic people either. It's so important to say no.

I’m about to go unfriend my toxic friend, I’ll update the comment as needed 😅 Update: this is the paragraph I sent: So I know this probably coming out of nowhere, but I think it’s best we aren’t friends anymore. I know that we aren’t fighting or anything, and I’m not mad. I just think it would be better for the both of us if we stopped being friends. We can still hang out when we have mutual friends and stuff, but I don’t think I want to call us friends anymore. It’s just that I’m under a lot of stress right now and I’m already going through some other stuff. And we’ve fought so much in the past that I don’t think that damage is reversible. I’m sorry if this causes additional stress to your life, that’s not my intention at all. But I think it’s best for me mentally to cut off our friendship for the time being. Maybe in the far future we can be friends again, but I’m not ready for that now. Again, I’m sorry for any additional stress this gives you. All she said was okay that’s fine 😂 I’m so glad we aren’t friends anymore, she is so freaking toxic.
