@It'sMeNotYou I like the plug-ins too! They can get expensive. I use a bowl of white vinegar with some drops of my fav essential oil to create a good air smell. You can set it out on top of the frig or in a pantry, peppermint is nice, it creates a good baking inspiration.

Vacuuming is actually my FAVORITE house cleaning chore. ☺️ I love the humming sound of the vacuum and the beautiful clean lines that it leaves behind. I think my first love of vacuuming began when I was an adolescent. My best friends mom had a formal living room with white carpeting. The lines of the vacuum were always in the same direction and her home always smelled like baked goods. Lovely.

If I had to try and describe it, I would say it was something like freshly cut wood, mixed with an old paper smell mixed with warm notes in perfume. There is nothing that can make me forget that beautiful smell. These days, I love to smell anything that is a mix of vanilla and coconut when I open the door.

My wife uses dryer sheets and she places them around the home. Inside our closets, dresser drawers, trash cans, hangs them on the towel racks and places the towels over top, inside air vents, frig, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, inside our cars. For the mattress, she uses a combo of baking soda and essential oil. Sprinkles it all over the top, let it sit for 45 minutes and use our Shark to vacuum it up. Pillows she throws in the washer, every other month. We have blinds, that are inside the windows but, before we had them, she replaced all the blinds and bought room darkening drapes, which could be thrown in the washer. She replaced all the carpet with hardwood and linoleum so, it was easier to clean and got rid of a lot of the smells. She also replaced upholstery and bought leather chairs. Soft surfaces hide smells. She uses sachets of different scents and places them on the bottom of the litter box. The cat can not get to them as they are on the bottom of the tray and there is a liner over top. People have been amazed we own a cat, as they can not smell anything. When we had our home for sale, she did the crock pot with oranges, cinnamon and lemon. Or, she would bake bread or, cookies. She would also start a pot of coffee. Hopefully, other people can use these, and have a fresh smelling home in no time.

Any tips on the best way to ventilate?
@Aranimda4 жыл бұрын
@@djosephine If safety allows it, have a small window open all the time. The best way to ventilate is to do it continuously. You can also use ventilation grilles but these are usually too small to provide adequate ventilation. Ventilation is even more important now we are in a pandemic, because getting airflow will dilute viruses that may accumulate in the indoor air.
@Aranimda4 жыл бұрын
@@djosephine I don't know much about that. HVAC systems are usually not transparent in how much actual outdoor air they deliver into your home. Some mostly recycle indoor air, others may have a low fresh air delivery rate, or may just be dirty. Only an expert can tell you if it is working sufficiently. You could get yourself a CO2 meter and get a decent measure of your air quality. If there is not enough ventilation, CO2 levels will rise because exhaled air contains more CO2. Outdoor air has 250-400PPM. A level of 400 to 600 PPM will allow you to breathe very comfortably with air quality levels nearing that of outdoor air. Anything above 1000 PPM means stuffy air and the need of opening a window.

I do love using a wax warmer and melts for an extra lovely smell (shoutout to Kohl’s), but cleaning ALWAYS comes first to eliminate any lingering nastiness.

And don't forget to clean your garbage disposal, too. That can harbor a lot of odors, especially if you use it for pet foods or fish. Turn on the disposer and run ice cubes regularly for general cleaning and removal of old food. I save citrus peels for the disposal, too. It smells citrusy fresh when I'm done. Finally, there are garbage disposal cleaners you can by that also work. Just follow package instructions. At holiday time, I put cloves into whole oranges in decorative patterns and put them in bowls around the house. They look lovely, and give my whole house a Christmasy scent! Happy clean and fresh smelling homes!!!

I LOVE the smell of a GOOD fresh linen when I walk into a home. However, during the holidays, I like the smell of evergreen/pine. That brings back such wonderful memories of my childhood. I like to eat but for some reason, don't like anything that smells like a food.

I am addicted to the scent of Eucalyptus. Don't know why but there it is. I've been known to search from store to store in my small village to find it. I always have Eucalyptus oil on hand + extra.....just in case...bottles stashed in the kitchen and the bedroom closet. I should probably get help.

Oh, me too! Eucalyptus is the best! I always have tons of bottles of essential oil. Frosted pine scent is a close second (turpentine too). 🤍
@floief4 жыл бұрын
@@submine Oh yes, Eucalyptus oil in the mop water, mixed with water and soap in a spray bottle to wipe the counters and... 5-10 drops in a small crockpot with the lid off always makes me feel better if I have a cold. 2-3 drops on a tissue under my pillow at night... :) When I was little Ma used turpentine in some of her home remedies so I have a fondness for that too.

I like the essential oil tip for the sweeper filter. I do this but I put the essential oil on a cotton ball and lay it on the carpet and sweep it up! I use to buy the sweeper filter that was made with Febreze but the company quit making them so I have to create my own Febreze smell but then there is the linen spray from Febreze I think it is my favorite aroma esp. the lavender vanilla spray for Fabric, carpets and Air!

Just got around to watching this. Also, as you taught me, clean your vent hood! Also, I bought a carpet steamer at an estate sale and cleaned my rugs and carpets. Wow what a difference in the way my home smells! I have 2 dogs. 🙀

I love the smells of hyacinths, lilacs and honeysuckle. I can never find essential oils of these flowers. I don't like using artificial fragrances but most essential oils are boring to me.

It depends on the room and time of year, but I always like citrus or mint in the kitchen and bath because it smells fresh, and lavender and vanilla everywhere else. At Christmas I bust out the Christmas tree scents, and the warm spice scents. I also do a lot of baking then, and love the buttery smell of shortbread, and the smell of toasted pecans and pecan pie.

Vanilla, Orange 🍊 Mandarin, and lemon 🍋. Its so refreshing... Clean crisp smells are nice. Ive used peppermint, citrus and citronella. Its a clean smell. Fyi... What type of mop are you using with your microfiber towel? Ty

Here’s another idea. Not sure where I heard this, but it works. Wipe a little eucalyptus oil on the edges of your ceiling fans. As they go around, they add a bit of fresh scent to the air.

I had a sour milk odor that lingered for a week and I tore my house upside down trying to find the source. It ended up being a K-cup for hot chocolate that was left in the Keurig machine . . . .I don't use it every day and forgot to take it out after brewing a cup.

12:22 cookie scented essential oil room spray half cinnamon oil 1/3 vanilla oil 1/6 sandalwood oil (ideally ethically sourced) one or 2 drops of floral scent for the backroads (should not be distinguishable) mix with carrier oil by shaking in a jar make a 50/50 water emulsion with a blender (if you don’t want to add alcohol it will eventually separate) transfer into spray bottle…. Fresh baking scent on out of the can

Hi Mellisa, I desperately need advise on dry mopping floors with using swiffer or Bona dry disposable cloths. They both pick up dust and dirt even after the vacuuming with the Dyson. Trouble is that I keep swiffering and dry mopping until I don't see any speck of dirt on the mop. This is so time consuming. It takes 5 hrs. just to complete a whole upstairs floor. Can you give any advise on how to get every last bit of dirt without it being so time consuming? Would using a microfiber cloth work just as well as the swiffer? Any tips would be a life saver. Thank you in advance.

I live in block of flats. My place is set on the ground floor. Some time ago, in the summer I started to smell an odour in the hallway. I would describe it as "scent of death" 😝 It took me few days to figure it out. It was my next door neighbour's bin. He kept in his landfill bin take away left overs and packaging. I waited for collection and without even asking I pressure washed it. No death scent anymore. Some people don't mind smells 😂

Biggest thing for me is to eliminate doggy smells . Having 4 it's key to making my house stay fresh and clean so I prefer to use the ecological products and change out pet bedding and throws twice a week in our family room which we share with our pups. Also my pups are groomed and bathed regularly...been told by guests they were surprised to learn we have pets 😊

Just to share my experience. I used zeolite in my office setting. I shared a cube with a fragrance person I was allergic to. The zeolite did nothing. Also having reviewed this video, I discovered zeolite products sold as health supplements for whole body detox. Having said this, zeolite is not on my list of must haves & I want to alert everyone to be cautious if purchasing. I recently purchased a charcoal air filter. It is pleated with an adhesive on one side which traps particulates releasing cleaner air. I haven’t had it long enough to judge its effectiveness. The person who sold it to me did say he has heard some people are sensitive to this type of filter. So, love & laughter to all. Stay safe! Happy cleaning your space!
