About 15 years ago I watched a very competitive 11-year old run a 3000 at this same series. She is now a European indoor champion and is competing tonight in Eugene for UK as Amy-Eloise Markovic...running dreams come true with work and perseverance.

Why make it easy on the kid? Adversity is the fire that drives successful people. You hand him the inside lane without making him fight for it and he'll get soft. Show him the math of how much further he had to run in lane 2 and how much faster his time could have been and he'll learn quickly how to be a better tactician and how to either be a front runner or a kicker (depending on the competition) after getting experience like this.

Great run kid. Awesome time... my son is 12 yrs old and runs 800m 1500m and anything up to 5km. He raced his 1st mile at a track challenge and got a 4.37. Looked up the world record for a 12yr old mile and its 4.35 so not far off and is currently running sub 4.20 for 1500m. He will be 13 in june 2024 so hopefully he geta a crack at it by then. Definitely special. My fastest mile PR as an adult is 5:22 which is pretty good for normal people but its hard to imagine a child finish half a lap faster than me being 6ft,165 in my best condition with hardly any body fat. Some people are just gifted

So he has the 4.35.. great work. My son raced his 1st ever mile race 1month ago and he is 12 and got a 4.37 looked up the record and saw a 4.35 WR great job👏👏. My son mainly runs 1500m here in australia but there are acouple of mile meets through the year so he may get a crack at it again

My friend is the fastest 13 year old in the UK, he recently got the 12 year old 1500m world record. I can't remember his exact time but it was around 4:08 - 4:12.

Well done. My 7th -12th grade mile PR times were 5:20, 4:56, 4:36, 4:24, 4:10 and 4:08 (the last being a true mile at Golden West). I went to a school that didn't even have a surfaced track, though my coaching and intensity was atypical. What is amazing is those times will sit on a wall for 20 years as untouchable and then some kid will look at them and decide it's his mission to beat them. It's always impressive to see the next generation take those records further.

Quenton ran approx 30 mpw at the peak of his season this year. He runs 4-5days/wk. Usually 2 workout days + a long run as a family on Sundays.
