Not exactly. I used to believe the same thing but then have been at jobs where it is done both ways. "Paid administrative leave" is the correct way because - conclusions can not be made on the spot. There has to be a complete investigation into any wrong doing. If and when it IS determined that the officer was at fault (talking about ALL situations not this one in particular), he can be terminated and the "paid leave" can be recouped out of any benefits he had (vacation, comp, sick, retirement, etc). The other way is - he is immediately SUSPENDED without pay, pending an investigation. NOW, if he is CLEARED, he has one helluva lawsuit against his agency. Not only do they owe him for all the back pay but can also be held liable for wtvr it cost him (foreclosure, repo'd car). No, it is always the smart play to keep issuing their check until they have been proven guilty of misconduct.

There are the boy story, his mother's story, the 911 operator's story, the other kids' stories, and the mysterious aggressor about whom the original 911 call was made.
