Amine Blush is a cloudy looking effect on the top of cured resin, it can also look a bit oily sometimes too... But it is something none of us want to see on our finished art.
The cause of Amine Blush is usually because of the humidity and temperature of the area where the resin is cured.
In this video I show the things I use to avoid Amine Blush and other problems caused during curing.
I bought my heat mat and thermometer/humidity monitor from Amazon, you can find the links here.

Thank you, I appreciate the common sense advice and approach!! I love in a cold area, under 65F/18-19C is most of the year, so this is great! Would aluminum foil or a baking sheet under the silicone mat help at all, besides making it easier to move the molds...?

Do you do yours in a shed. Uk houses don’t have much space so can’t do it inside as they say you can’t because of fumes. Iv got a hot tub in my shed that keeps it warm in the summer months, would I b able to resin in that place and cover with a box like you did. Would it be ok otherwise I am not going to be able to do it. I’m still collecting my bits to do it, I am a beginner. Iv got a couple of resins but nervous about starting. Until I can work out where I can do it. I was going to do it in the garden if we get any British summer but stuff may get in to it now, do you have any tips for me please and Iv just subscribed to your channel tonight so now I will look at what you have made and thank you

Hi Alison, I'm very fortunate to have a separate studio for my art and resin work, it has bifold doors which I can have open for fresh air. I would be carful of using resin in the shed with a hot tub in it because of the moisture involved... resin really doesn't work well with any contact with water.

Hello, yes, this should be absolutely fine... I would keep the door shut and have the windows open a little bit, just enough to vent the room. If you cover it with the box and use the heat mat, you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck with it all, and remember to have fun and enjoy the process! 🌹

Hi Cathy, you're very welcome, I hope it works as well for you as it does for me! It sounds like you have eliminated the other possible causes, so the cold is highly possible. I hope you have lots of fun on your resin journey... Be careful, it's very addictive 😆 🌹

January 2023 Yeah, the fumes are very harmful! No way can I do resin in my teeny apartment. I had planned on doing it on my porch, but I live in the desert where winter daytime is max 65 F. & nights are in the low 40's F. This would be wonderful as I'm anxious to get busy with resin! 😃. Did it work for you?

Thank you very much Shirley! These mats are made to be left on for long periods of time, so I can't see any problem with leaving it on over night... and it is something I doo regularly. It depends on the brand of resin you're using as to how long you need to leave it.

Thanks for the tip about the heat pad, much better than balancing things on a hot water bottle! I'm also in the UK and bought some resin in August, it's now November and my resin has gone cloudy before mixing it with the hardener. Did it get too cold? Can it be rescued? Struggling to find any info about cloudy thick resin prior to casting.
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 2 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome, I'm so pleased it was helpful for you! It does sound like the cold has affected your resin, but don't worry, you can certainly save it! Before you start using it, put the bottle (or bottles) in a container of hot water.... Just have the water hot enough so you can still put your hand in it without burning yourself. Make sure the lids of the resin are firmly closed and wipe the bottle dry before removing the lid because resin really does not like water! Just leave it in the bath of water for 10 minutes or so. The cloudy look is the bubbles, they will dissipate as the resin warms, and it will also help thin the resin again. One other thing, if you are heating the resin in this way, it will reduce the working time of the resin... It's not a problem, but just something to remember. 🌹

@TillyDouglas

Hi Tandra, it's a bit of trial and error, and depends on whatever temperature your brand of resin recommends for the drying temperature. I have my heat mat setting on somewhere near the middle and then adjust is a necessary when I cover it with the plastic box.

Thanks for this Tilley, I have just started with resin and I’m having terrible problems! I’ve been trying jewellery with pressed flowers in it but have yet to be left with a perfect finish, there is never a lovely flat shiny finish so maybe this is the reason, maybe I will try this so thank you so much! Could you let me know where about on the dial you have your heating pad? I tried to click on you Amazon link but for some reason it won’t open 😞
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Jenny! Just a thought, but do your moulds have a shiny base, or a matt base? If you pour resin onto a matt mould, when you turn it out, it will have a matt finish, but if it has a shiny base it will have a shiny finish. 🌹 I have my dial set at about halfway around, but it really depends of the setup you have and the temperature in your own resin area. I did check the links, but they are working fine from my end

@@TillyDouglas I’m using open bezels for the jewellery and I’ve tried them on shiny file dividers and sticky tape, I think I’m going to buy some translucent powder to colour the resin and some moulds to see if that helps, I’ll also try a heat pad. My art room is a large room upstairs that has heating but obviously at night it does get colder. I will persevere, practice makes perfect or so they say 😆

Will this prevent my resin getting bubbles in while curing ?i am new to resin and have wasted lots due to micro bubbles coming in when curing in a 20oc room
@TillyDouglas
@TillyDouglas 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dee, it could help, do you warm your resin before mixing it by standing it in a bowl of water first? (Make sure the tops are on properly and make sure you don't get any water in the resin) ... You can also use a torch to get bubbles out OR spray isopropyl alcohol on the top which will also help get rid of bubbles.
