Future video ideas. Go in depth on tree choices for the stand, why that is the choice, different tree set ups. Do you prep your ingress and egress? You talk about moving to a tree same day and prepping it. Do you go full bore and cut lanes and all when doing this or is this a more of a quick and dirty move? Does that disturb deer movement? This would be focused on public and private crop fields.

Iv been using scentlok as long as John has . I want hunt without it. I understand most of these products out on the market,don’t work ,and are about making money just like everyone else does, but Scentlok isn’t one of them. If you do as John teaches , with bathing your body ,with no scent soap, and use these scent Lok clothing , I can promise you that you will see more deer. Hunters that don’t believe in scent lok are getting busted by deer that they never see ,are hear because as soon as a deer smells you ,it’s game over. That deer can smell you ,way before it even gets close to you, and when it does it will turn right around ,and head back ,where it came from. Only the hunters that are willing too address their scent seriously will be the ones ,too ever know. I had a friend taught be about scent lok years ago. I too, was in disbelief at first. But when I started seeing deer coming straight dead down wind, time and time again , scentlok has been a part of my arsenal ,and will be till I die , because if used correctly ,it works.

Would you ever consider filming your hunts more?
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
I doubt it because I have videos of my kids and other things and I never watch them once I lived the event. I take my camera now and film parts of hunts for educational purposes to help hunters, but filming an arrow going through a deer chest and then filming him run and die is a bit over the top to me. We would certainly have an uproar if people filmed and aired on KZbin people dying, and I have enough respect for whitetails to not film then get shot and watch them run and die. I do not consider hunting a sport as that is what anti hunters and PETA replicate hunting to be because of the way it has been portrayed since TV shows took over hunting and filmed what is a gross misrepresentation of actual natural hunting scenarios. They are the very organizations that are trying to ban hunting and we keep thinking of ways to fuel their fire. Just about every person gets upset when they see a live pet or animal on TV come into a veterinary clinic that has been shot with a gun or bow, yet hunters have no qualms about showing the actual projectile entering what ever it is they are hunting and think it's OK for all because they get off on it. To me hunting is a humane activity and part of our human culture. Hunting is our opportunity to be in and enjoy nature with the phenomenal byproduct of taking tasty venison for the freezer, and to me, I have zero interest in showing animals taking hunting projectiles and dying. Once they've expired, I have no issues with filming them. I just happen to hunt and target mature bucks in natural areas because, not to sound arrogant, that's the skill level I think I'm at. I have many personal issues with where the hunting community has taken us over the past 25 years since most TV shows and their so-called hunting personalities and now many KZbin video hunters, have taken us in the wrong direction.

Would you recommend this set over the paradigm set?
@pbbananas Жыл бұрын
Good video. I bought the jacket but passed on the pants last year. I get dressed at the stand and the lack of leg zippers at the time wouldn’t work for me. One tip if more modifications are made next year, ditch the internal microfleece lining of the jacket and pants. Coming from a person who lives in Colorado and hikes weekly year round trying all types of layering combinations, micro fleece liners add very little warmth for the weight and complicate layering. If it’s cold enough and one has to wear a midlayer, the most common options are fleece or a polyester/nylon lined lofted insulation. A fleece midlayer contacting a fleece jacket liner is the worst in this scenario. Fleece on fleece binds and feels restricting. A mid layer with a polyester/nylon face like a thin puffy works, but at the same time counteracts the design of a lofting insulation. Puffies both synthetic and down are designed to loft for maximum insulation. The more it can puff up, the more warm air it traps and the warmer it will be. Wearing anything over the top reduces the loft and therefore the heat retention of the puffy. It works but you cheat yourself out of the full value of your puffy purchase. If the jacket and pants had a soft face polyester/nylon liner (similar to a military style woobie blanket), it would allow more efficient layering because everything would slide together more naturally and unrestricted. Considering you designed this jacket for a price point that the everyday person could purchase, the most common layering garments for the everyday person are various weights of classic fleece or a simple hoody. Which as stated bind when directly contacting the microfleece lining. Just food for thought. Otherwise, love the jacket for Midwest hunts. It’s hard finding a warm static external layer that doesn’t make a lot of noise and isn’t too bulky for drawing a bow! You did a great job on the sleeves and neck.

Merino wool is what i think John will say and then maybe heated vest
@pbbananas Жыл бұрын
@@evanclough4124 I have both. Merino is not a great midlayer. A midlayer ideally you don’t want to hold moisture. Wool holds up to 30% of its weight in water and inside of a membraned jacket, you’re going to build up perspiration. That’s a good way to get hypothermia. Polyester fleece is hydrophobic and holds roughly 2% of its weight in water. Plus a proper midlayer made of merino is very expensive and not very warm for the weight. Besides, it still doesn’t solve the binding issue. Both fleece and merino are rough faced and create friction (with the exception of some gridded fleeces with smooth exteriors, but they’re not cheap. Or some generic branded power stretch fleece.) The heated vests are solid, but it’s much easier to just start with a proper nylon liner that lets you pick any mid layer you might already have. I run a windbreaker between the mid layer and saddle hunter jacket to get around the issue. It just adds noise unfortunately.
@dennisullman4188 Жыл бұрын
How about wearing the Forefront jacket as the midlayer underneath the Saddle Hunter jacket.
@pbbananas Жыл бұрын
@@dennisullman4188 never tried it, but that would likely work decently. The forefront looks to be a variation on Polartec Powerstretch fleece or it could also be a soft shell variation with a smooth nylon face bonded to a fleece backer. Then it has a DWR treatment for external moisture repellent (which you can buy and apply yourself if you desire: nikwax). “Active insulation” would be a great option which utilizes polartec alpha, alpha direct, or some variation. Just look for the key words “active insulation” in the description. It’s kind of like a fluffed up fleece for increased airflow with a nylon face. Think of it like a thinner puffy that lets some air through. Great for not overheating when getting to your stand, then the saddle hunter jacket worn overtop would stop the airflow when you post up for deer. Stuff like the Patagonia nano air, Sitka kelvin active, etc. Not good for stationary sits by itself but great as a midlayer. Depending on the brand it’s a bit fragile. The higher the nylon denier (30D, 50D, 100D, etc) the more durable the face fabric. The most durable midlayer is a classic polartec fleece design. The same thing you can find at any thrift store for a few dollars and it’ll last decades of abuse. What’s cool about the saddle hunter set is what it does at its price point. Sitka, first lite, etc have a similar setup at 2-3 times the price. What makes this system work is the affordability. You shouldn’t have to buy exotic midlayers to make it work when a simple liner change would make it more versatile. A micro fleece backer makes no sense. It’s purely for comfort next to skin. Who’s actually wearing a T shirt or shorts under this setup? It’ll be winter, long sleeves/sweater/jacket and pants. You’ll never feel the fleece backer on your skin. It’s useless and an impediment to an otherwise solid design/product.

When I go through burrs with any fleece garments, when I get to the van I take out my folding saw and leave it shut and use the backside of the saw blade to scrape the burrs off. Tell you what, I get very little flack for naysayers anymore because there are many hunters out there now that are doing it right and not paying attention to wind and they are helping me when I get beat on. I can take it because I'm 100% positive it works because I hunted 35 years without it and paid attention to wind 100%, and now 25 years with it and pay zero attention to wind. Nobody could ever tell me it doesn't work, because I prove it does many times every season. Most hunters are simply too lazy or not detail oriented enough to do the process, or, and there are many hunters in this camp, they hunt such awesome property that they always get opportunities no matter what they do because there are so many mature bucks where they hunt. I think that is why many downplay it because they hunt managed property where they kill no matter what due to so many opportunities like on TV.

@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
Your opinion is a good one as I agree that most of the popular patterns are too dark, no argument here. I have 2 Predator SL midweight suits from the 2 years they offered them and about 4 different weights of Vertigo suits from when they offered them. I typically only wear the Vertigo suits when in a tree with only a bright sky background or when there is snow. Another great pattern they offered was Mathews pattern as it is has a lot of open areas. The MO Terra Gila and RT Excape patterns are decent as well. But I'm definitely more into not getting winded and unfortunately have to accept what they offer. Not having to pay attention to wind direction is far more important than the pattern as I just hunt a bit higher to be out of their peripheral vision and move around the tree on my ring of steps to keep the trunk as a hiding buffer. I will say this, they wouldn't sell more Vertigo or Predator than the well advertised darker and more pleasingly cosmetic from close up, well advertised patterns. I sold hunting rags for 34 years into some of the largest sporting goods store in the country and the majority of hunters buy what is advertised, sad as it is, that's just the reality. Good and valid points though.@@Kenzie13nicola
