I use cotton skull caps under my scent lock head gear. I always treat them in my ozonics bag. I have multiple ones and it’s one and done and they go in the wash. I also keep my hair very short in hunting season.

John just wanted to thank you for all the information you have shared through the years. I decided to go full blow and really give you process the opportunity to show me what it could do this past season. I purposely went into some stands on a wrong wind and to keep it short I was extremely pleased with the results. Later in the season I caught myself heading to my stands with out ever considering the wind direction till I was actually up in the tree. I would drop milk weed to watch it fall right on the path the deer walked by on with out any notice of my presence. You and Dan Infalt are pretty much the only hunting anything (youtube, tv) I watch anymore.

If anyone thinks john is full of shit they are lazy and have no ambition on how technology works. I've had a horrible /great season with having encounters /opportunities with mature bucks in the heavily pressured state pa! Quick stat we have well over300k archery hunters so our bucks that are 3.5 or older are incredibly smart . I missed a big 8 11-7 last light down wind coming into a scrape last light also with thermals coming down still never winded me. Also had 5 doe and a 5pt within 10 yds of me 3 of the 6 deer were right below me and the big ten pt atleast 4.5 year old was 20yds standing downwind giving me a frontal shot that I passed on and he snuck away as the 6 deer below me ended up picking me as I was drawn back for 2 minutes on a 20 degree windy January day! Johns info is incredible and had I been using a treestand and not following a strict scent regiment i would be playing/ guessing the swirling wind game, hunting the eberhart way 10 years ago I'd have alot more big bucks to show! Keep up the great work as I'm still grinding in pa late season 💪

Thank you Blair and good luck the rest of the season. I'm actually loving the fact that so many guys are properly using ScentLok and saddles and getting more opportunities and are not being afraid to chime in on negative replies from lazy hunters. Makes my job a lot easier when the support chimes in. Have you noticed that there are very few negative replies lately, it's because of hunters like you that aren't accepting their lazy BS hunting styles and are replying back. Thanks for the support and congratulations on your kills and opportunities..

If washing a non scent lok back pack is acceptable do you see a problem wearing non scentlok clothing as an outer layer worn over scentlok under layers if properly washed and never touched with bare hands?
@mtpocketswoodenickle2637 Жыл бұрын
Yes you can. If you store your ScentLok gear with your outer clothing it helps to absorb foreign odors from them. ScentLok originally was just a thin liner, almost like a set of silk pajamas, head cover and gloves. I would layer my hunting clothes into my storage container in the sequence of suiting up. It works out well for speeding up getting ready on a cold day.
@rustinpeace7466 Жыл бұрын
You could, but I think the recommendation would be to wash that non Scentlok outer layer every time you wear it. It would be less labor intensive using Scentlok as your outer layer as a catch-all.
@mtpocketswoodenickle2637 Жыл бұрын
@@rustinpeace7466 I know from experience it's not necessary to do so every time after a hunt. I'll say it again, layering your ScentLok with your outer hunt wear will absorb foreign odors. That said, the only time I've been winded in 25 years with ScentLok on, was getting caught in a heavy rain.
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I do it when using Rivers West outer garments during hard rains, but it has to be washed after every single hunt and be stored and taken care of with extreme care. I never feel quite as safe when I'm wearing RW over a SLok suit in the rain. But. it hasn't failed me yet.

I like to wear wool clothing still hunting and during gun season is why I was wondering. It would also give me a ton of options when sitting as far as being comfortable in different conditions.

@repsag1800 Жыл бұрын
Great content, thank you! I do have a question about storage after a hunt, and if its in a different video then I have not seen it yet. My question is after a hunt, do you hang your clothes out side for a while to help remove any moisture that may be on the clothes or put them directly back into your totes? Thank you
@Louisiana-critter-getter Жыл бұрын
I don’t know what he does but your exterior shouldn’t be damp if it is from rain throw it in the dryer before putting it in the tote but your under layer garment should wick all your sweat if it’s drenched wash it dry it an put in a different tote 👌🏻

I use a thin antibacterial baselayer headcover and gloves (non scentlok) under my scentlok headcover and gloves. That way I can wash the baseslayers frequently and keep the scentlok items cleaner and you don't have to de-adsorb them as often. I've also found that the ozonics dri-wash bag is great for treating scentlok when a clean dryer is unavailable. Never, ever wash/dry your scentlok at a laundromat.
@robertlocke7711 Жыл бұрын
I never wash my sentlok suit. Just a dryer but I feel like I need to wash my head cover. Is that alright???
@HolezGT Жыл бұрын
John, I’ve heard you say it repeatedly but what exactly do you mean by clean rubber boots. I guess what I’m asking how do you keep and store clean rubber boots
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
I don't do anything special concerning storing my neoprene or rubber boots. During off season they are in a large lift top plastic storage unit in my garage and the overflow of boots are in the rafters of the garage. At no time are my hunting boots ever worn for anything than hunting and not when getting gas or in a restaurant during season. Also, most new boots have a pretty strong odor to them and if possible they should not be used for a year or two just to let the smell simmer down. You can also put new boots in a wheelbarrow and fill the barrow up with raw earth, within a few weeks the raw earth will get rid of lot of the odor and you can use them that season. You will never get rid of all the odor but can cut it down to a point where deer will accept it and just move on, or they may follow it for a ways down your entry and then lose interest and go back about their business. The point is, less is always best concerning foreign odors of any kind, especially when hunting in pressured areas where deer just have more security precautions.

Thank you for the information on the gloves and head covers. I have 1 question tho in other videos you say you put used suits into a bag and not back into the toat. What kind of bag do you put them in.
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
I said that after a hunt I put my suits back into the tote with other ScentLok suits, UNLESS I think it needs to be de-adsorbed (which is a total judgement call by the user). If I think I need to de-adsorb it, then I put it in a regular plastic bag and de-adsorb it when I get the chance and then it goes back into the tote with the other SLok garments. NOTHING but SLok garments goes in that tote.

Thanks for the information. How could I get a copy of your scent control regimen?
@tomnolan2186 Жыл бұрын
Would you recommend getting base layer scent lok with washed unscented outer layers or washed unscented under layers with scent lok on the outside layer? Or doesn't matter too much?
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
That matters huge! SLok base garments don't have as much carbon in them and I would never trust any regular exterior clothing to not pick up foreign odors after it is washed. It would also be a one and done where the exterior regular clothing would have to be washed after every hunt. When using SLok exteriors, they all have the same Carbon Alloy liner and what you wear beneath them doesn't matter. Also when using SLok exteriors, you can wear them several times before they require de-adsorption. I do wear Rivers West raingear as exteriors once in a while and I wash them after every hunt and store in an airtight container.

Hi John, Enjoyed this video! Question regarding the beanies: Do you deadsorb them the same way as the headcovers and gloves? Since you said they have less carbon I got a little curious, thought possibly you may wash them in scent free detergent. Reason I am asking is I have 3 of them! Thanks....!

So is it ok to deabsorb using ozone instead of using the dryer for 45 minutes. Like in-between suit times. Just out gloves and head cover in a scent lock ozone bag and if so how long should i run the bag?
@rustinpeace7466 Жыл бұрын
There is no substitute for the heat the dryer provides. Ozone would destroy any odors not trapped by the carbon so that would likely be more useful in between the 3-5 hunts you deabsorb with the dryer.
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, no. You can use ozone to treat your undergarments and then leave them out a while so the ozone odor dissipates, or use it to take foreign odors out of your vehicle before season. If you use ozone on your SLok suit and then put it in an airtight container, the ozone odor will still be there as it can't dissipate.

The recommendation would probably be to use Scentlok's detergent, but a scent free detergent would be a good second best. If they are not dirty or bloody they shouldn't need to be washed though.
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
I agree with the other reply, you can wash your headcovers and gloves once or twice a year and use the gentle cycle with very minimal soap if any and then dry on the air dry setting and once dry, run the heat to it for 40 minutes.

John I dont think you touch on keeping your bow, arrows releases etc. scent free. I think that if a deer gets hinky its that equipment. I wipe my equipment with scent free wipes religiously. I even put my equipment in my van with a ozone machine because im so anal. You should put a video out on that

Great point an I likely will and think I have it on my list and will check. I got winded in 2000 by a doe because I lowered my fabric rattle bag down to the ground to jiggle it in the leaves and forgot it was there as I hooked the rope over my backpack hook. She walked right under the tree and sniffed it and spooked. I had washed the bag and only handles it with my gloves on, but she still picked up something, but not until she stuck her nose on it.

Scentlok needs to have all their head covers and hats available in orange for gun season hunts . It gets old trying to put a orange cap over top of a head cover when it’s not so cold to use the beanie over top
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
They did quite a few years ago and it sold very poorly because most of their customer base is bowhunters. It would be fine to have a couple orange beanies washed in scent free detergent and stored properly and wear them over a SLok headcover. Not perfect but for gun hunting it should be fine.

Is the radar a stand alone head cover piece? Just ordered one since they were half off. Looks really warm for late season. Also, how long does a head cover last? Thanks
@johneberhart4062 Жыл бұрын
Yes the radar is a stand alone headcover and has a drop down facemask. Because you're only going to wear a radar when it's really cold, you won't wear it that many times during a season. A suit that you wear every hunt will last about 8 to 10 years so if you wore a radar headcover 25% of the time when hunting, it should last about 32 years.
