$112 vs $14 Loaded Waffles: Pro Chef & Home Cook Swap Ingredients | Epicurious

Professional baker Bill Clark and home cook Daniel are swapping ingredients and hitting the kitchen to have a crack at each other's loaded waffle recipe. We set Daniel up with $112 worth of supplies - everything he’d need to make Bill’s marbled pumpernickel waffles with citrus-cured salmon and homemade cream cheese. Meanwhile, a more modest $14 worth of ingredients was sent back the other way for Bill to elevate into something gourmet. As is customary, food scientist Rose dialed in for a conference call to answer some questions Daniel had along the way. Alright, no more waffling: which one of these loaded waffles looks best to you?

He didn't deserve any hate and it sucks that he did only because of his "wild" combination in foods or just using his own twists on it and at the end of the day cooking is about cooking how you like and trying different ways of preparing a dish. Without people breaking out of the "traditional style" of food we wouldn't have so many different delicious dishes. Plus blueberries with grilled cheese is such a nice balance to that fatty strong cheesy taste.

As much as I like that idea, I think the reason why they don’t do that is because it might make the mediocre chefs felt inferior or down when they compare their dishes with what it’s supposed to be when cooked by the pro. Maybe they could do pro vs pro instead and since they’re on the same level, we might get to see how different each of them are.
@gergk5
@gergk5 2 жыл бұрын
@@SailorSaturn4 I don't know if that's really an issue. The way I see it is that these episodes are more about challenging the chefs and a bit of teaching and learning new skills rather than showing who is the better cook. It's expected that the Pro Chefs will in most cases perform better despite the value of the provided pantry items. For instance Chef Bill's dish looks way better here despite using cheaper ingredients so plenty of opportunity to 'feel inferior' either way for the amateur chef. Most home cooks would probably welcome a free 'masterclass' and see it as an opportunity to learn from and be inspired by a seasoned pro on how to handle & cook with premium produce.
@warriormaiden9829
@warriormaiden9829 2 жыл бұрын
@@gergk5 Especially if the home cook is right there acting as a second set of hands for the prep. Treat it as a learning opportunity rather than a hoity-toity "Oh look at me, mine is better" (which, I don't think any of the chefs on here would turn it into that).

I don't like ragging on cooking videos, because the techniques used are actually legit and it looks good. It's a good visual experience since I don't get to observe chefs in action normally. But let's be real, how many people are really ordering $100+ breakfast menus on the regular? Politicians? I don't mean just this video, I mean some of the other videos too (at a glance: $500 steak dinner? Isn't that basically a whole 2-3 Michelin star experience?) Sometimes cooking videos just add extra expensive ingredients just to drive up the expected cost of the dish (i.e. caviar). Which is a legitimate thing to do. But I feel like at that point the extra ingredients weren't necessary for the dish itself (i.e. the salmon in the waffle might as well have been Japanese A5 Wagyu)
