Your videos are so inspirational. Hey, it's just a pot, but if you're going to do something, you might as well do it top notch, and that's here in spades.

These videos are great. I just started doing the chattering. A couple of hints from someone just learning the technique. 1. Your clay must be on the dry side for the chattering to work. If too wet, you will just make a line instead of chattering. 2. Be sure to burnish the area of the chattering before chattering, if you plan to color it with underglaze and not glaze over it. The burnishing will give the area a nice sheen. Thanks

I just ordered a wheel for X-mas and figured I would check out some throwing videos. Your videos are some of the best that I have found so far. Your pieces stay so perfectly centered that it's difficult to tell that they're turning most of the time. I'm enjoying this chatter texturing video a lot. It looks like fun to experiment with the tools, angles, etc. It's cool that you made the tools from hacksaw blades too. I'm also impressed with how much time you put into trimming and burnishing the feet and also thinning the bottoms of your pieces. It's obviously much easier to shave the walls thinner than throwing them so thin. I will be sure to remember this wise skill early in my learning. Thanks for sharing with & teaching us. 👍

Thanks for being a true source of knoledge and inspiration for all those who love modeling. All the greedy teachers who ask a lot of money just for a one-afternoon workshop should look at this man and be ashamed of themselves.

Got a great chatter today after watching this last night. I used the technique you show starting 43:50 . I lost control and dug too deep in the middle of the bowl, but it looks great at the top. Thank you! I've been trying since I found your videos a couple weeks ago.

This video shows very well what a simple tool is able to create on the surface of a pot. Obviously the pot needs to be at the correct dry/wetness; leather hard, the tool you're using needs to be nice and sharp and you need to learn about the different angles and tools to use for different effects. I like everything about your videos except one thing! The noise of that wheel, haha. Every thing else is perfect. Thank you for sharing this "very informative" video with us.

Dear Hsinchuen Lin, I have a question but first thank you for all these amazing videos. When your tool bounces, do you keep your hands still or are your hands doing the bouncing? Thank you in advance
@hsinchuen
@hsinchuen 3 жыл бұрын
I kept my hand steady. Once you trigger the chattering, it will keep bouncing so you have to your hand steady and move your tool slowly.

It makes the clay too wet and eventually it's counterintuitive. The clay easily tears when it's over-moisturizer.
