The VII Pioneer Meeting took place for the 3rd time in Dresden from August 15 to 21, 1982. An achievement show of the young and Thälmannpioniere was also a topic of the meeting. To the resolutions of the X. Party Congress of the SED and 11th Parliament of the FDJ the pioneers gave account. Three of the eight central pioneer meetings of the GDR pioneer organization "Ernst Thälmann" took place in Dresden: the I. from 18 to 25 August 1952, the II. from 12 to 18 August 1955 and the VII. from 15 to 22 August 1982.

Germany (GDR/DDR) 1982 ▶ VII Pioniertreffen Dresden (15.-21.08.1982) Das VII. Pioniertreffen fand vom 15. bis 21. August 1982 zum 3. Mal in Dresden statt. I'm writing from Italy. I don't know what life was like in former east germany but I don't see unhappy guys in the pictures, even though this is supposed to be a film shot by national propaganda. (Sorry for my English)

@@d.pan83 I guess it depends on your definition of simple life. I grew up in the western part of Germany, my childhood was in the 70s, youth in the 80s and I found life much simpler than it is today.Three TV channels (until mid 80s) plus one from NL and one from B - which was more than enough. We'd spend much time outside, especially during spring, summer and autumn and of course, also in winter when there was snow. There was no pressure amongst the kids to wear a certain fashion brand and there was simply no consumer terror as you find it today. Now coming back to my previous comment, yes - I believe that kids inn eastern Germany had a good childhood too. However, I knew people whose parents applied for an exit visa because they wanted to move to western Germany and from that moment on their tranquil life became a gauntlet. The children were excluded from almost all social events (e.g. pioneer organization and FDJ) and their life at school was made very difficult and quite painful. We lost sight of each other, but they always spoke hatefully about that time.

This is actually the Russian allied part of Germany former German Democratic Republic East Germany if you are wondering the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin lived in Dresden since there is an Old Stasi file on him. Since this was the 1980s you are more likely to find that multicultural Present Day Germany on the underside of the Iron Curtain which was then West Germany.
